Class of '59 to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville High School Class of '59 held itsmonthly luncheon Sept. 13. Donna Snyder gave the blessing and an update for Norina Eroshevich's successful surgery. Well wishes were extended to Eroshevich and Tom Maxwell.
Pete Barren advised of Dan Keenan's death. Keenan was an administrator at the high school for many years. A moment of silence was observed by those in attendance.
Barry Wilson and Sally Wilson provided a birthday cake, which was picked up by Terry Seese.
Happy birthday was sung to Deanna DeSantis.
The next meeting will take place at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Call Eroshevich at (740) 314-5248 for reservations. All are welcome.
PERI meetings upcoming
STEUBENVILLE -- Members of the Public Employee Retirees Inc., Jefferson County Chapter, met Sept. 13 in the Fiesta Room at Froehlich's Classic Corner.
Guest speakers included Cindy Morris and Judy Owings of Our Place, a recently-opened community activity and resource center, located inside First Westminster Presbyterian Church in Steubenville.
An open discussion without guests and highlighting the PERI 2023 annual meeting, which was held in Columbus, will be discussed, officials stated. The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Froehlich's Class Corner.
During the November meeting, officials will try to have either their state representative or state senator in attendance, should their schedule allow.
A Christmas party will be held in December.
The 50/50 winner was Esther McCoy.
Algonquin Mill fest set
CARROLLTON -- The Algonquin Mill Fall Festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Located four miles south of Carrollton on state Route 332, the event will offer a steam-powered flour mill, pioneer village and homemade foods.
Foods featured include apple butter, sauerkraut, cookies and bean soup.
Children can visit a petting zoo, have their faces painted and ride the kiddy train.
Live stage entertainment includes cloggers, bluegrass bands and vocal groups. Craft vendors and antique cars will be on-site as well. For information, visit www.carrollcountyhistoricalsociety.com.
Fall Fest coming to area
BLOOMINGDALE -- The third-annual Fall Fest will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 21 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at the 6355 township Road 166 in Bloomingdale.
The event will feature food, fun and games. There will be live country music by Bob Kline, Doc Roe and Gary and Sammy.
A car show will take place at noon Oct. 21, according to organizers.
The kids play area will be one price for all day.
The celebration will be sponsored by Heart to Homestead Farm, Campbell's Crossing and and Cindy's Creations.
Cross Creek to hold trick or treat
Cross Creek Township has announced it will set this year's Halloween date for trick-or-treating as being from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 28.
Democratic women to meet
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Democratic Executive Committee will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Brooke County library in Wellsburg.
Teresa Toriseva, vice chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party, will serve as the guest.
Square dance fundraiser, Oct. 21
TORONTO -- The Pleasant Hill School House Historical Museum will hold a square dance fundraiser from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Knoxville Volunteer Fire Department, located at 15447 state Route 152, Toronto.
The cost is $5 for singles, $8 per couple and $10 for families. The caller for the evening will be Dan Kirk. The caller will teach as he goes, according to officials.

Retired teachers meet
WINTERSVILLE -- The Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association met Sept. 12 at the Wintersville Methodist Church. President Dave Nicholson presided.
Larry Coleman reported nine members volunteered 1,253 hours.
Marge Andres stated she would like to have membership renewals by Dec. 12.
Barbara Pritts presented a handout to those in attendance. The form suggested "what not to worry about and what we can control."
Avis Henry reported the Pleasant Hill School House Museum will hold a square dance fundraiser from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Knoxville Firehouse.
The Holiday Fest will be held Nov. 4 at Four Seasons Ministries in Wintersville.
Members heard from Chris DeMarco, past president of Ohio Retired Teachers Association. He spoke about the lack of a yearly cost of living adjustment, as well as inflation costs.
DeMarco encouraged members to donate to the pension defense fund.
Tamla Cole from State Teachers Retirement System, reviewed the 2024 insurance changes. She cautioned members to be aware of Medicare scams.
The next meeting will be held Nov. 14 at Starkdale Presbyterian Church.
