Church preparing for pre-order Greek pastry sale

GREEK PASTRY SALE — The Weirton All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Women’s Society, Philoptochos, is preparing for a pre-order Greek pastry sale. WEIRTON -- Philoptochos, the Weirton All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Women's Society, will be holding a pre-order Greek pastry sale.

A variety of Greek pastries are being featured, including baklava; finikia, which are honey cookies; halva, otherwise known as honey cakes; karidopita, which is a walnut cake; kourambiedes, or powdered sugar cookies; and koulourakia, which are twist cookies.

Chocolate fudge will be available, as well.

These pastries will be in time for Thanksgiving, and many selections can be frozen for the Christmas holiday, according to society members.

Orders will be taken beginning Monday. The group will take orders up until Nov. 3, it was noted.

The pick-up date is scheduled for Nov. 17 at All Saints Hellenic Memorial Hall.

The orders will be pre-packaged, organizers stated.

Those placing an order will be given a designated pick-up time when placing an order.
