Betty Leisure of North Chestnut Street in New Cumberland was chosen as the winner during August's Yard of the Month contest. Leisure's spacious yard is surrounded by a private hedge. There are several smaller flower gardens, as well as a larger garden near the home. The larger garden offers a variety of flowers, lawn sculptures and two wooden bridges which span a "make-believe stream" officials stated. For winning August's contest, she has received a framed certificate, check and yard sign. The sign will remain in her possession until next month's winner is announced, organizers said. The Yard of the Month award is sponsored by the city of New Cumberland and New Cumberland volunteers. Leisure was presented with a check by Mayor Will White.
