Garden club announces winners

WINTERSVILLE -- The Woodland Garden Club held its annual flower show during the regular Aug. 3 meeting at the Shorac Family Center.

There were 10 members in attendance.

There were 32 beautifully-created entries to the flower show, organizers noted.

The Show was themed "My Many Gardens."

There were seven different categories in which contestants could enter.

Each garden club member had the opportunity to vote on the top four entries in each category.

They then chose the best of show from the first placements in each category.

Of the 32 entries, the top arrangements in each were: Class One, shade garden, six entries, Bernadine Sliva, first place; Carla Gasser, second place; Sarah Grafton, third place; and Cherri Kough, fourth place.

Other arrangements were created by Kim Slivka and Elaine Wukelic.

Class two, rose garden, two entries, Susan Tatar, first place and Sarah Grafton, second place.

Class three, perennial and annual garden, parallel design, seven entries, Sarah Grafton, first place, Susan Tatar, second place; Kim Slivka, third place; Carla Gasser, fourth place. Other arrangements entered were Karen Lane, Cherrie Kough and Elaine Wukelic.

Class four, succulent garden, six entries, Wukelic, first place; Cherrie Kough, second place; Carla Gasser, third place; and Sarah Grafton, fourth place. Other entries were created by Susan Tatar and Kim Slivka.

Class five, moonlight garden, four entries, Wukelic, first place; Eleanor Drazich, second place; Sarah Grafton, third place; and Cherri Kough, fourth place.

Class six, oriental garden, ikebana design, three entries, Cherrie Kough, first place; Sarah Grafton, second place; and Gasser, third place.

Class seven, vegetable garden, four entries, Sarah Grafton, first place; Susan Tatar, second place; Carla Gasser, third place; and Eleanor Drazich, fourth place.

The best in show was selected from all first-place entries and went to Elaine Wukelic for her succulent garden entry, which included "a beautiful and unusual pineapple lily."

Norma Harris and Eleanor Drazich made up arrangements used for display only, which decorated the refreshment table.

There was no presentation for the August meeting, officials noted.

The club provided DiCarlo's Pizza and thanks was given to Mark Gasser for picking up pizza and delivering it to the meeting for members to enjoy.

The next meeting will take place Thursday at the Shorac Family Center. Beradine Sliva and Wukelic will be in charge of refreshments.

The presentation will be given by Joyce Griffin and Nancy Hugle. The artistic arrangement will be created by Carole Patton.

During the September meeting, the installation of officers will be held.
