Funseekers talk open positions

WEIRTON -- Fifty members of Funseeker's club gathered for the September meeting at Undo's in Weirton, with Joann Bugin leading those in attendance in the reciting of the pledge and singing of "God Bless America." This was followed by a short reading and blessing.

President Cathy DiBenedetto welcomed attendees, then acknowledged birthdays and anniversaries. Special recognition was given to Carl Truax and Ragina Truax, who celebrated 65 years of marriage. DiBenedetto introduced guests Mary Jo Canella, Josie DiBenedetto, Wilson Cole and Linda Cole.

Following dinner, members played several games of bingo for cash prizes. Winners were Joyce Dobbs, Valerie Rowland and Regina Truax. Dobbs was the winner of the final coverall as well.

During the business meeting, DiBenedetto introduced officers for the 2023-24 year.

Larry Bauer will serve as vice president and Mary Beth Bauer, secretary. The office of treasurer still needs to be filled, it was noted. Outgoing treasurer Charlotte Christian reviewed the duties which go along with the title, asking for nominations or volunteers to accept the position. After some discussion, Diane Sagen stepped forward and accepted the treasurer's title.

DiBenedetto announced Charlie Green resigned from the executive board, and therefore, a replacement is needed. Along with the current officers, board members include founding member Dino Rossi and Regina Truax serving as tour director.

DiBenedetto thanked the picnic committee, recognized the efforts of founding members, past officers, the phone committee and the sunshine team on its contributions to make Funseeker's the success it has become throughout the years. She reminded those in attendance annual dues must be paid prior to the October meeting being called to order. Dues for active members are $10 annually. New members are welcome throughout the year with annual dues of $10 and a one-time $5 initiation fee.

Funseeker's meet the first Wednesday of every month, with the exception of January.

The annual picnic will be scheduled depending on site availability, officials stated.

All meetings are scheduled to take place at Undo's, but locations in Steubenville will be reviewed by the executive committee and discussed at a later time. Gene Viola presented a proposal for the Breakfast Club in the Hollywood Plaza.

Truax has been scheduling trips for the 2024 tour season, which will be announced at the two upcoming meetings. The remaining trips this year include: MGM Casino, Northfield, Oct. 13; Rock & Roll DOO Wop, Capitol Theatre, Wheeling, Oct. 21; Oglebay, Festival of Lights, dinner at Wilson Lodge, Nov. 17; and A Motown Christmas Show, Capitol Theater, Wheeling, dinner at Mehlman Restaurant, Dec. 2.
