Camera club announces competition results

WINTERSVILLE -- The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club held its annual competition Sept. 19 at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church in Wintersville. Judges included professional photographers Cindy Baxter, Larry Tackett and Garen DiBartolomeo. More than 260 photos were submitted to be judged in 16 categories. Abstract results included Michelle Stevens, first place; John Hanish, second; and Barb Momyer, third.

Architecture results were Barb Momyer, first place; Eric Patterson, second; and Karen Felix, third. Black and white results were Sharon Slokan, first place; Patterson, second; Momyer, third; and Patterson, honorable mention.

In the category of children -- candid and formal, the results were Gary Barker, first place; Felix, second; and Deb Snider, third. Close-up results included Momyer, first place; Dennis Jones, second; and Patterson, third. Results in the category of flowers and plants were Stevens, first place; Patterson, second; Snider, third; and Patterson, honorable mention.

Night photography results were Stevens, first place; Jones, second; Stevens, third; and Jones, honorable mention. Open winners were Patterson, first place; Jones, second; Felix, third; Slokan, honorable mention. In the category of people -- candid and formal, results included Patterson, first place; Stevens, second; and Patterson, third. In the category of pets, officials announced Slokan, first place; Stevens, second; Patterson, third; and Barker and Patterson, honorable mention.

Results of scenic photos included Patterson, first place; Snider, second; Hanish, third; and Slokan, honorable mention. The special effects category was won by Momyer, first place; Patterson, second; Snider, third; and Hanish, honorable mention. Sports photos were won by the following Snider, first place; Patterson, second; and Slokan, third. Results for still life were Patterson, first place; Stevens, second; and Slokan, third. Photos depicting a sunrise or sunset were won by Hanish, first place; Slokan, second; and Diane Bannister, third. Wildlife results showed Jones, first place; Patterson, second; Barker, third; and Slokan, honorable mention.

The best of show winner was Jones.

The camera club will feature all winning pictures from the competition, as well as other photos, at its exhibit, which opens at 10 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Millsop Community Center, located at 3420 Main St. in Weirton.

The display will include photographs taken with digital and film cameras and those taken with cell phones. The exhibit will continue through Nov. 2 during the center's business hours. The center is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.

The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club welcomes anyone who has an interest in photography. All formats are welcomed, including medium, film, DSLR, mirrorless, smartphone, bridge, compact digital, 360 and instant.

The club's next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 17th at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, located at 1085 Canton Road. The winning images are displayed at the camera club's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/upperohiovalleycameraclub.
