NEW CUMBERLAND -- The September meeting of the Alpha Tau chapter, Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary for Women Educators was held at the Swaney Memorial Library. The meeting was called to order by President Amy Hannahs. The thought for the day was a reading from "A Teacher's Heart," and was presented by Chaplain Kathy Griffith. Secretary Velda Icard presented the minutes of the May meeting and June executive board meeting. Both were approved by the group. Treasurer Angela Cunningham gave the financial report. President-Elect Fran Jones discussed the chapter booklet and reminded members to make any corrections for their information on the International website. Committee reports were then given. Names were drawn for teacher buddies, a program which pairs a retired member with a member currently teaching or working in the educational system. The purpose is to provide encouragement and support through notes, emails, cards and other forms of communication, according to officials. Hannahs announced the chapter received the status of a Seven Pearl Chapter from International headquarters. Three chapters in West Virginia received this recognition.

Ohio Valley District Chairman Marge Politz served as a special guest, speaking to the group regarding the upcoming state convention. The convention will be held at Oglebay Resort during the spring. Chapters within the Ohio Valley will be hosting the convention and have been notified of their responsibilities in preparation for the event. Alpha Tau will host the Ohio Valley district meeting Oct. 28 at Scaffidi's Restaurant and Tavern. Members attending must register by Oct. 23, officials noted. Hostesses for the meeting were Hannahs, Mary Lou Martindill and Pam Robinson. Members enjoyed participating in a series of games and activities before taking part in refreshments. The next meeting will be held Oct.10.
