County Road 26 closure
STEUBENVILLE -- Due to the Cross Creek Township Road and Bridge Department replacing a drain line at the cemetery, Cross Creek Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. today with the exception of residents driving to their homes from Fernwood Road. There will be no access from county Road 26.
Story hour set
FOLLANSBEE -- The Follansbee Public Library is offering story hour for children 2 through 5 years of age and their caregivers. The free program takes place at noon on Mondays and includes a craft, games and a snack. Space is limited, so seats should be reserved by calling Kim Harless at (304) 737-1551 ext. 106.
Playhouse show continues
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke Hills Playhouse production of "Last Round-up of the Guacamole Queens" by Jones Hope Wooten will continue at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets for the southern comedy are $10 for children, $12 for senior citizens and $14 for adults. The box office opens one hour prior to performances.
The Brooke County Arts Council is the volunteer organization behind the playhouse. Its officials are working to raise $20,000 in order to match a grant that would go toward improving the electricity within the playhouse barn. The barn was built prior to the Civil War and needs the electrical repairs, so donations are welcomed, officials stated. For information, call (304) 737-3344.
Senior center to hold sales/dance
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Senior Citizens Center, located at 3425 Main St., will hold its monthly bake sale, rummage sale and puzzle/book sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30.
Its monthly dance will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 7. Both events will take place at the center.
The cost to attend the dance is a $5 donation at the door. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish to share. The center will furnish hot dogs, punch and dessert. Jack Thomas will play the keyboard and sing. For information, call the center at (304) 748-3490.
Scio auxiliary to hold craft show
SCIO -- A craft show will be hosted by the Scio American Legion Auxiliary, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 10. Located at 38175 Crimm Road in Scio, the event will offer candles, jewelry, homemade items, baked goods and food will be available.

Civil War Roundtable speakers
WHEELING -- Members of the Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable have announced the dates of upcoming meetings in the speaker series, with lectures to be held in conjunction with members of the Wheeling Area Genealogical Society and Friends of Wheeling.
"On Monday, Jeanne Finstein and Carin Gannon will present a lecture on the extraordinary experiences of Dr. Alfred Hughes of Wheeling," stated Roger Micker, roundtable member. "The discovery of more than 100 letters written by Hughes provides a fascinating look at Wheeling and his life inside Camp Chase prison in Columbus."
The lectures will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Ohio County Public Library auditorium and are open to the public, free of charge. For information, text Micker at (304) 312-7559.

Youth center to hold fall classes
STEUBENVILLE -- The Sycamore Youth Center has announced it will be holding sign-ups for 64 fall classes. New classes introduced for the fall semester include two ceramics classes, two STREAM classes, two chess classes and a youth art guild. Most classes from last semester will be returning, including carpentry, martial arts, cosmetology, tumbling, classical choir, folk dancing, hip hop and tennis.
