Mystery dinner theater
WINTERSVILLE -- The group, It's All Relative, will be hosting an evening of intrigue and entertainment at the Maltese Ferret Mystery Dinner Theater starting at 6 p.m. Sept. 9.
The event will take place inside Sargus Hall, located inside Blessed Sacrament Church in Wintersville.
"Immerse yourself in an interactive musical whodunit, Maltese Ferret," officials stated.
The cost is a $40 per-person package which includes a variety of options to choose from within the salad and pasta bar, drinks and desserts.
The cost will include It's All Relative making a contribution that will go to support local high school students as they engage in local Destination Imagination academic challenges.

Group donates to Maui fires
WEIRTON -- The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held its meeting Monday, with President Shirley Brecht opening the meeting.
Chaplain MaryAnn Smith began the session with a prayer, followed by Secretary Marcy Spano announcing those on the prayer list.
Spano mentioned she sent get-well cards to auxiliary and club members.
The pledge to the flag was led by Brecht. Roll call was taken by Darlene Kemp, vice president.
The July minutes and the treasurer's report were approved as read.
Officials noted the July luncheon was held at Giovanni's and the meal was enjoyed by everyone in attendance.
An announcement was made the auxiliary has lap blankets which were given by one of the members and they will be passed on to wives of club members at Christmas.
Brecht brought to the floor about making a donation to Maui, Hawaii, with the motion passing.
The president then mentioned she brought in stockings to be used at Christmas. These will be filled with various items and taken to the Weirton Geriatric Center where they will be distributed to veterans.
She then brought before members the idea of holding its upcoming annual Christmas party in the back room at Giovanni's during the first week of December.
The motion was made and members approved the recommendation.
The meeting was adjourned, with the mention the next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Weirton VFW.
Seniors club meets
FOLLANSBEE -- The International Senior Club met Aug. 8 at Follansbee Park with Pat Cappa leading with a prayer.
President Regina Truax led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the singing of "God Bless America."
Members then enjoyed a picnic luncheon and desserts. Each person brought a covered dish while the club provided the main meal and drinks. Attendees enjoyed a day of food, fellowship and fun activities, officials noted.
Truax welcomed members and their guests, which included Pat Cappa, Tom Beecroft, Joyce Dobbs, Mary Ellen Groves, Marlene Dunn, Linda Stankiewicz and Albert Veltri.
The senior club announced the following bus tours, which are open to the public: Pittsburgh Pirates vs New York Yankees, PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Sept. 17; Seneca Niagara Falls Casino, Niagara Falls, Sept. 20-22; MGM Casino, Northfield, Oct. 13; Rock and Roll Doo Wop 23 starring Herman's Hermits, Capitol Theater, Wheeling, Oct. 21; and Oglebay Festival of Lights, shopping, dinner at Wilson Lodge, Wheeling, Nov. 17. At the conclusion of the meeting, the 50/50 drawing was held, with the winner being Josie Elliott.
Members then by played various bingo games with prizes awarded to winners. The next meeting of the International Senior Club will be Sept. 12 at Undo's.

PERI discusses meeting dates
STEUBENVILLE -- Co-presidents Terry Jennings and Pat Horton presided over the July 12 meeting of the Jefferson County Chapter of Public Employee Retirees Inc.
Members gathered at Froehlich's Classic Corner and discussed upcoming meetings and sessions.
It was explained the August meeting will feature visitor Jim Range, District 9 PERI representative.
The annual state meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Columbus. PERI is having a general OPERS session during the morning and then offering attendees the opportunity to learn from a variety of experts who will make presentations in a 45-minute breakout session.
There will be four different topics of interest to retirees, officials stated. Visit operi.org for information. A letter from U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Marietta, was read, thanking the chapter for its letters asking him to co-sponsor HR 82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023.

Story hour set
FOLLANSBEE -- The Follansbee Public Library is offering story hour for children 2 through 5 years of age and their caregivers.
The free program takes place at noon on Mondays and includes a craft, games and a snack.
