Story hour set
FOLLANSBEE -- The Follansbee Public Library is offering story hour for children 2 through 5 years of age and their caregivers.
The free program takes place at noon on Mondays and includes a craft, games and a snack.
Space is limited, so seats should be reserved by calling Kim Harless at (304) 737-1551 ext. 106.
Playhouse show continues
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke Hills Playhouse production of "Last Round-up of the Guacamole Queens" by Jones Hope Wooten will continue at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Aug. 25 and 26 and 2 p.m. Sunday and Aug. 27.
Tickets for the southern comedy are $10 for children, $12 for senior citizens and $14 for adults.
The box office opens one hour prior to performances.
The Brooke County Arts Council is the volunteer organization behind the playhouse.
Its officials are working to raise $20,000 in order to match a grant that would go toward improving the electricity within the playhouse barn.
The barn was built prior to the Civil War and needs the electrical repairs, so donations are welcomed, officials stated. For information, call (304) 737-3344.

Join the library for our larger-than-life fairytale adventure in the green space at First Fridays in downtown Steubenville at 6 p.m. Sept. 1.
Look for the 60-foot-long castle to experience literature in a whole new interactive way.
Teens, reading and free food. Starting Sept. 1, teens can stop in to any library branch and be a part of the PLSJ Fresh Subway Reading Program.
Read six books and get a 6-inch sub from Subway restaurants in Steubenville, Toronto or Wintersville.
The program runs September through May.
One coupon per person, per month. Offer is available to teens ages 13-18.

Fidelis Gamma Chapter
STEUBENVILLE -- The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators met at Froehlich's Classic Corner July 3.
President-elect Margo Polk presided over the meeting.
The "thought for the day" was given by Bonnie Queses, who recited a poem entitled "Each Day."
She then gave the blessing.
Queses read the minutes in the absence of Ruth Fuller and Treasurer Carolyn Allison gave the financial report.
A thank-you note received from Sophia Aperfine was read, to which she thanked members for the scholarship she was awarded.
Under new business, "Our Southeast Region ITE Scholar from Indonesia, Ambika, is studying at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Our sisterly-love contained a donation of a Visa gift card," officials stated.
Fidelis Gamma Chapter members stated they "were thrilled to hear that the chapter is a seven-pearl chapter."
Special thanks were given to those members who carried out all obligations.
The council of chapter presidents met Saturday at the Robert Mollohan Center in Flatwoods, W.Va. Alpha Tau Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa will host the Ohio Valley district meeting Oct. 28 at Scaffidi"s Restaurant.
Hostesses for the meeting are Donna Durkin, Liz Pugh and Twinkle Smith.
The next meeting will be held Sept. 7.
Hostesses will be Carolyn Allison, Ruth Fuller and Eileen Snyder.
Prior to Polk adjourning the meeting, August birthdays were recognized, including Nancy Deters, Donna Durkin, Elaine McClung, Nancy Holdsworth and Jerry DeFilippo.
