Isabell Metzger
Weirton woman turning 100
WEIRTON — Isabell Metzger will celebrate her 100th birthday with family members on Thursday at the Weirton Geriatric Center.
After growing up on her family’s farm in Fayette, Pa., she moved to Wellsburg with her husband, Bill in 1950.
Bill Metzger and Isabell’s brother, Bill Chalfant, opened up the Chalfant Buick garage together. She attended business college.
When the couple’s children were in their teens, Isabell went to work as a secretary for Eagle Manufacturing.
She was employed for 19 years and was an active member of the Wellsburg First Presbyterian Church.
She sang solos with the choir and performed in its bell choir. She was active in the Steubenville club Hetty Elizabeth Beatty Questers.
The Metzgers were married 67 years.
She and her late husband have three daughters: Carol (Bill) Lynn of Wellsburg; Mary Jane McElroy (the late Jim) McElroy of Weirton, and Barbara (Gene) Lauck of Center Township, Pa.
She has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Flea market coming to Hopedale
HOPEDALE — The Hopedale fire department will be hosting a flea market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hopedale Social Hall.
Breakfast and lunch will be available. A 50/50 drawing will be held. Tables are $5 each for those who would be interested in participating.

Museum to hold open house
RICHMOND — The Richmond Community Historical Society will host an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Crew House Museum on Main Street in Richmond.
The event will include three rooms dedicated to Jefferson Union High School, with memorabilia such as annuals and the nutcracker available for viewing.
The open house is free of charge but donations are welcome, organizers noted. All communities are invited to attend.
Rock painting craft offered
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will offer rock painting for ages 8 and up. The craft will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Story hours set
FOLLANSBEE — The Brooke County Public Library will hold various events to coincide with its summer reading program, Camp Kindness.
Story hours based on “Cookie Kindness” will take place at noon on Monday at the Follansbee library. “Bravo Boris!” will be featured at 11 a.m. on July 12 at the Wellsburg library.
Seating is limited for the free programs.

Retired steelworkers to meet
WEIRTON — The Weirton Steel 25-Year Club will hold its picnic at 11 a.m. July 15 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds at 80 Serbian Way.
The event is open to all Weirton Steel retirees and Cleveland Cliffs active or retired employees, whether they have 25 years of service or not.
Rummage sale to be held
STEUBENVILLE — There will be a Junk in the Trunk rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 15 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
The event will take place outdoors in the parking area behind the church. There are plenty of vendor spaces available.
The cost is $10 to rent a parking space and have a table. The price is $15 for the space to have two tables.
Vendors must supply their own tables, officials noted. Anyone is welcome to serve as a vendor and participate.
Teen luau dance set
WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Elks Lodge will hold a free teen luau dance for those in grades 5-8. The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 15.
Youth are encouraged to dress in Hawaiian clothes for the event, which will include hula hoop, limbo contests, beach ball games, food and non-alcoholic drinks.
