Bergholz museum open during festival
BERGHOLZ -- The Bergholz Area Museum will be open from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday during the Bergholz Community Foundation's town festival celebration.
The museum, located at 268 Second St., is next to the Bergholz Diner. Its permanent collection includes history that is related to area businesses, schools, mines and the surrounding communities. Admission is free.
Wellsburg to hold Bible School
WELLSBURG -- The Wellsburg First Church of God, located at 500 Bethany Pike on state Route 67, will be holding Vacation Bible School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 19-23. Officials stated this year's theme focuses on following Jesus here, there and everywhere and is entitled, "Ready, Set, Move!" The event is for preschool through fifth-grade pupils. Bible School coming to Weirton
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Heights Church of Christ, located at 3169 Pennsylvania Ave., will hold Vacation Bible School from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 26-30. A family picnic will take place at Hannover Park on the last day of VBS. Cookies and punch will be served. This year's theme will be, "Redemption Ranch." Children, teens and adults will learn to grow in God's word, officials noted.
The following schedule has been announced: June 26, Use God's Gifts, Parable of the talents, Matthew 25:14-30; June 27, Grow in God's word, Parable of the soils, Matthew 12:3-8 and 18-23; June 28, Share in God's Love, Parable of the unmerciful servant, Matthew 18:23-34; June 29, Share God's Light, Parable of salt and light, Matthew 5:13-19; and June 30, Accept God's Grace, Parable of the prodigal son, Luke 15:11-23.
Adult classes will be taught by these preachers: Robert Johnson, June 26; Steve Stevens, June 27; Jeremy Main, June 28; Rico Brown, June 29; and Chris Raynor, June 30. For information, call (304) 723-1160.
SOAR picnic coming to Follansbee
FOLLANSBEE -- The Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees will hold its picnic at 11 a.m. June 22, at Follansbee Park. The event will consist of food, speakers, prizes and a 50/50 drawing. To make reservations, call the union hall at (304) 748-8080 or (304) 797-9785.
Legion to hold health fair
WEIRTON -- American Legion Post 10 and the Weirton Lions Club are co-sponsoring a free community health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 24 at the legion hall, located at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave.
Officials are highly encouraging veterans, their families and the general public to take advantage of the fair. At this time, health screenings being offered include: portable vision screening, blood pressures, pulse oximetry and blood glucose monitoring. Educational material will be available for diabetes, hypertension and other health problems.
According to officials, a gentleman will be in attendance to discuss veteran's benefits; a representative from Mountaineer Partnership for Community Health will be on site; and CHANGE Inc. will have a representative on hand to discuss available programs.
Table set-ups are available for health-related vendors and officials are continuing to reach out to those organizations who might want to participate.
Door prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be available.
Lions Club members will be on site to collect used book donations for Weirton Little Libraries and are collecting used eye glasses and hearing aids for the Lion's recycling program.
