Legion to hold Flea Market Saturday
WEIRTON -- The Weirton American Legion Post 10, located at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton, will host a flea market Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring more than 20 tables, including homemade baked goods, vintage items and sports memorabilia.
Fundraiser dinner, today
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- A cabbage roll dinner will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the East Springfield Community Center. The menu consists of cabbage rolls, mashed potatoes, applesauce, bread, dessert and a drink for $10. Patrons can either dine in or get their meals to go. Proceeds raised will be used to help with the next dinner, according to organizers.
Strawberry festival today
IRONDALE -- The Irondale United Methodist Church, located on Grant Street, is having a strawberry festival from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today. The menu consists of hamburgers, hot dogs, chili dogs, baked beans, watermelon, salads and various strawberry desserts. Dine in or carry out is available.
Quarter auction to be held at EGCC
STEUBENVILLE -- The Sojourner Truth Federated Women's Club is hosting a quarter auction from noon to 3:30 p.m., Saturday at Eastern Gateway Community College's Founders Hall. Doors will open at 11 a.m. There will be a $5 entry fee per person. A paddle is included with each entry fee. Additional paddles are $1 each.
There will be an auction which benefits the Sojourner Truth scholarship fund and a 50/50 drawing. Concessions will be available for purchase. The auction benefits the Sojourner Truth scholarship fund. Every year, the award goes to an eligible graduating high school senior.
Rose Marie Slaughter, club president, and committee members Sandi Rue, Vicki Gilliam, Michelle Gilliam and Hazel Sweetenberg asked the community to join in this event and help sponsor the scholarship fund.
Brooke Hills Playhouse auditions
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke Hills Playhouse will be holding auditions for the final two shows of the season beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Playhouse.
"Run for Your Wife," a comedy written by Ray Cooney, has a plot which involves a taxi driver who gets away with having two wives in different areas of London because of his irregular working schedule. Complication is piled on complication as the cabby tries to keep his double life from exploding. The cast includes two women and six men.
Auditions will be held at 11:30 a.m. for, "Last Round-Up of the Quacamole Queens," written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. In this funny, Southern-fried comedy, the Verdeen cousins of Sweetgum, Texas -- Gaynelle, Peaches and Jimmie Wyvette, are up against the clock as they frantically attempt to produce the ultimate high school reunion before the old building is demolished. The cast includes 8-9 women and five men.

Ron Retzer Trio to perform
RAYLAND -- The Ron Retzer Trio will be performing at 6 p.m. June 25 at the Hopewell United Methodist Church, located at 476 county Road 16, Rayland. The event is free and an offering will be taken. Light refreshments will follow.
Broken Fences 4-H Club meets
RICHMOND -- The Broken Fences 4-H club held their monthly meeting May 25 at Richmond Park. Members discussed upcoming events, worked on their community service project and put together care packages for a local nursing home. Packages included personal care items and activity books.
The Broken Fences club meets monthly and is busy preparing for the Jefferson County Fair and various other summer events. The next meeting will take place later this month.
Donations of school supplies sought
TORONTO - Last year, more than 40 children were provided back to school clothing and supplies through the Misty Monroe Real Estate Team. It is the team's hope that this year, at least 100 kids can be helped. And they are seeking the community's assistance to do so.
Donations of gently used shoes and clothing, or new items such as hygiene products, back packs and school supplies can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to noon July 8 at 221 North Fourth St. in Toronto. The items are for those in grades kindergarten through 12. Officials appreciate any assistance which can be provided. Those unable to drop off donations can have someone come and pick the up by phoning (740) 512-0892.
