NEW CUMBERLAND -- The New Cumberland Lions Club will have its first pulled pork takeout fundraiser of the year from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 27 in the parking lot of the Swaney Memorial Library.
It was announced during the group's monthly meeting held May 9 and led by President Dorothy Hawkes, that additional summer dates have been set to hold a few fundraisers.
Future dates of the pulled pork fundraisers are July 1, July 29 and Aug. 26 in the library parking lot. Club members plan to also participate during the New Cumberland Riverfest on River Avenue in September.
The barbeque pork will be provided by Hale's High Street Kitchen at Franco's. Costs for the items will be: Pulled pork sandwich, $7; a side of either potato salad or baked beans, $1 each; and bottled water or soda, $1. All proceeds raised are used to fund various Lions Club projects, officials stated.
Hawkes, who brought the meeting to order and led the pledge, was followed by Lion Pam Stiles who offered the prayer. The minutes were accepted and the treasurer's report was placed on file for audit. The treasurer noted that international dues will be increasing over the next three years, with no changes in state dues.
Lion Tom Stiles noted the Adopt-A-Highway clean-up had to be rescheduled, taking place last Saturday.
Memorial Day parade preparations were discussed, as member Jeanne Cox will be providing the truck Lions members will ride in. It was noted some Lions will be walking, handing out candy.
Lion Loretta Tate donated the club pins of Past District Governor Jack Harris from his years as a Lion. Bob McNeil has these pins organized and on a display board. He suggested adding these to the club memorabilia on display at the city building.
The next board meeting will take place Tuesday at the city building, with the next regular meeting being held May 23 at the New Cumberland Christian Church.
