OVBPW Club to award scholarships
WINTERSVILLE -- The Ohio Valley Business and Professional Women's Club will meet at 6 p.m., May 16 at Zalenski's Family Eatery & Pub to award scholarships to area students.
Members will also discuss the success of the recent Wine and Shoe Extravaganza which was held at the Mingo Knights of Columbus Hall. In addition, the club will elect and install new officers.
Newview CEOS learn organization tips
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Newview Community Educational Outreach Service Club recently met at the Hancock County Senior Services Center to hear a lesson entitled, "Where Did I Put That? Personal Planning for Today and Beyond." The presentation was given by member Marilyn McClure.
The discussion included focusing on keeping important documents organized and in one location so that when the need arises, everything will be readily available. Such items include power and medical powers of attorney paperwork, wills, medical records and end of life directives.
The club also discussed fundraising ideas for the coming year. Ideas ranged from holding and paint and snack event for May 20, a pie sale during the month of August and the possibility of a night at the races event during the fall.
Officials also noted during the meeting that the club received five applications for the $500 scholarship the Newview CEOS give to one senior student within Hancock County. The applications were given to a committee to select the recipient, with the winner to be announced in the near future.
Also during the meeting, this month's door prize was won by Doris Musselman.
Next month's meeting will take place at 11 a.m., June 7, at the Hancock County Senior Services. A lunch consisting of hot dogs with chili and potato salad will be served. Then at noon, the monthly lesson will be presented by Musselman, with the focus of this lesson being, "The Possibilities of Plants."
The public is invited to attend. While there is no charge to attend lesson, those wishing to have lunch will have to pay the Senior Center fee of $6.
The Community Educational Outreach Service is a WVU Extension-supported membership organization open to the public with a focus on member education and community service. Farm Bureau announces scholarships
HARRISON COUNTY -- The Harrison County Farm Bureau announced its scholarship winners for the 2022-2023 school year. The following students will receive their scholarship amount to the college of his or her choice:
Cadiz resident Cabot Arbaugh, Harrison Central High School, $500 scholarship; Jewett resident Paige Arbaugh, Jefferson County Christian School, $250 scholarship; and Uhrichsville resident Madison Houston, Claymont High School, $250 scholarship.
The Harrison County Farm Bureau awards scholarships annually to students pursuing further education in agriculture. Scholarship applications are due March 31of each year.

Adena Legion plans services
ADENA -- Adena American Legion Post 525 and its auxiliary units will visit pupils at Buckeye West Elementary School in Adena at 1:30 p.m., May 19. Legion officials and the children will hold their own pre-Memorial Day Service, with parents, families and the public invited to attend. The guest speaker will be Rodney Roe, resource officer for the Buckeye Local School District.
In addition, the Memorial Day program for the community will begin with a Community Ecumenical Memorial Service at 9 a.m. May 29 at St. Casimir Church on Hanna Avenue.
Fallen soldiers will be remembered with a, "Roll Call of those Killed in Action" and, "Poppy Presentation."
Following the church service, the Memorial Day Parade will line up on Hanna Avenue beginning at the Legion Home. Following the conclusion of the parade, a service will take place at the Legion Memorial. Guest Speaker will be state Rep. Ron Ferguson, R – Wintersville.
Legion officials stated they hope that all veterans, their families and local organizations will spend a few hours of the day's events with them, "to remember those who have died for their country, so we can enjoy the freedom that we have today."
"Your participation in the Memorial Day services and parades would sincerely be appreciated," stated Roger Sliva, of the Legion.
