STEUBENVILLE -- The Sycamore Youth Center, located at 301 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, will be offering nine free summer camps available on a first-come, first-served basis to area students.

The camps are:
– Vocal Performance Camp: May 15-19, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Would your child like to learn how to sing before a crowd? Darlene Van Dyke started performing as a 14-year-old child traveling all over the country for decades and was featured regularly on television performing gospel songs. She will guide the children in how to connect with a crowd and sing with excellence. She also will encourage them in terms of having their heart and life in the right place in order to successfully deliver a performance.

– Ballet Camp: May 22-26, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Sycamore Ballet Camp will be led by ballerina Audrey Shannon who taught the ballet class at the Sycamore Youth Center last summer "which was wildly popular with all of the participants," Bauman noted. It is open to students at any experience level. Questions can be directed to (740) 409-2986.

– "Mommy and Me" parenting discussion class: June 12-16, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
A discussion time led by experienced parent Michelle Clum will include topics related to child care, managing schedules, etc. A topic will be brought up each day with Clum guiding a time of discussion, passing on the wisdom she has obtained through rearing her own children.

– Folk Ensemble Camp: June 19-23, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Sycamore Folk Ensemble Camp is a week-long day camp in which students will learn how to sing, play folk music on traditional instruments and dance to traditional folk songs of Europe. This camp is for ages 10-18. The starting date is June 19, and it runs through June 23. The time is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For students who wish to play an instrument in the ensemble, they must already know how to play it.

– Kid's Art Camp with the Masters: June 19-23. 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The great artists offer a glimpse of the world in its goodness and beauty. In the Kids Art with the Masters Camp, young artists will learn about the great masters and create their own masterpieces in different styles of art throughout history.

– Ancient Civilizations Camp: June 26-29, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Learn about ancient civilizations and cultures from Sarah Wear, a professor at Franciscan University of Steubenville, during this four-day camp.

The Sycamore Youth Center Summer Camp will involve STEAM Education, Bible stories, music, outdoor games, crafts and snacks. The camp is for current kindergarten through eighth-grade students as of the 2022-23 school year.

The Sycamore Summer Theatre Camp is back and last year was the most in-demand camp by far, according to Bauman. "The students loved it. They will put on a play at the end of the week," he explained, noting the camp will accommodate a maximum of 30 participants. – Crazy Eights Math Camp
"Crazy Eights" Math Camp will be returning June 5-9. The camp is taught by Chrissy Safranski, a professor at Franciscan University of Steubenville, and other math instructors. The camp is students in grades kindergarten through five.
