Three Score Seniors welcome new member, guests to meeting
WEIRTON -- President Ed Powell welcomed members of the Three Score Seniors group at their March meeting held at Undo's in Weirton.
Bob Shirer gave the invocation.
Powell installed Dorothy Byers as secretary and gave the treasurer's report.
Vice President Vivian Weigel introduced Jack Giacometti, who entertained members with his singing and keyboard playing.
Sunshine Chairman Winnie Kemp updated members on cards sent and thank-you cards received. Birthdays were acknowledged.
Reservation Chairman Vivian Weigel noted there ere 48 members attending. She introduced Jeff Krahel as a new member. Jeanine Worden attended as a guest of Jim and Marlene Hare, and Flo Virtue was a guest of JoAnn Kerr.
House Chairman Kathy McCarrick decorated using the St. Patrick theme. Powell thanked her for her expertise in decorating for all the meetings.
Prizes were given by Larry Purks, Jim Hare and Betty Virtue to Cindy Richards, JoAnn Kerr, Jane Watson, Bob Watson, Larry Purks, Vivian Weigel, Dorothy Byers and Richard Ceraolo.
Shirer gave the benediction. The next meeting will be held on April 27.
Osage Cemetery Association
schedules April 17 meeting
TORONTO -- The Osage Cemetery Association will hold an informational meeting on April 17 at 4 p.m. at the Osage Church, township Road 242, Toronto.
Those with family members or loved ones who have been laid to rest at the cemetery, owners of burial plots or those interested in helping to preserve the future of the cemetery and church are welcome to attend to discuss cememtery and church improvements.

Masonic Temple to host Easter Bunny, breakfast on Saturday
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Masonic Temple, located at 227 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, will host a fundraiser pancake and sausage breakfast on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Donations are appreciated, according to a spokesperson. The Easter Bunny will be on hand. Attendees are encouraged to bring a camera for pictures.
Toronto Sunrise Seniors name Bill Edwards member of month
TORONTO -- The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met at the Karaffa Recreation Complex on March 24 with President Barbara Pritts welcoming several guests as prospective members and several couples who had been absent for an extended time.
Vice President Sandi Radvansky gave the blessing for the covered-dish meal. Pritts thanked the kitchen committee and volunteers for their work and willingness to help out with set-up and cleanup.
The group recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Laura Sheets conducted the roll call of officers and read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were unanimously approved. Treasurer Judy Sabol gave the financial report, which was filed for audit.
Social secretary Marlene Garrett congratulated those with a March birthday or anniversary. She announced that the April kitchen committee will be Bob and Mary Lou Deku, Judy Sabol, Marsha McConnell and May Ann Landerfield.
Pritts announced that the bus has been filled for the trip to Washington, Pa., on April 26, but that a few seats remain for the trip on April 30 to Midland, Pa., to see "An American in Paris." Seats are available for the trip to the Smokey Mountains in September. Contact Judy Bickler at (740) 632-3155 for information.
Bill Edwards, who enjoys golfing and traveling, was recognized as the member of the month.
The trivia game for the evening involved symbols of the state of Ohio. Darlene Naukam was able to correctly identify all of the state symbols, including the state flower, bird and reptile, and was presented with a prize. Betty Mossor and Edwards were the 50-50 winners.
After the meeting, members played bingo with Joe Radvansky calling the numbers. Winners for the evening included Mary Murphy, Garrett, Rex Mossor, Hank Sheets, McConnell, Mary Lou Deku, Dorothy Pavelka, Sherri Hall, Don Pritts and Candi Murphy.
The next meeting is April 14. Any senior citizen who is a resident of Ohio is invited to attend.
Sycamore center performers
to entertain Funseekers
STEUBENVILLE -- Members of the Funseekers gathered for their first meeting of 2023 on March 1 at Scaffidi's Restaurant in Steubenville, hosting a food drive to benefit the Brooke-Hancock Salvation Army's food pantry.
President Judi Gaynor welcomed members, and Vice President Cathy DiBenedetto noted all birthdays and anniversaries for January, February and March.
Chris Sklenar gave the blessing and led in the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of "God Bless America."
After the buffet dinner, Gaynor opened the business meeting by thanking members for the donations to the food pantry. Treasury and secretarial reports were read and approved.
Funseekers member Bill Shipe presented the group with a certificate from the Tri-State Marine Corps Club in recognition of the Toy for Tots drive in December.
Treasurer Charlotte Christian read a proclamation from the Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools honoring Cathy DiBenedetto, Funseekers vice president, as Outstanding Middle School Math Teacher for Indian Creek Schools. She teaches eighth-grade math.
Gaynor announced that the annual picnic will be held Aug. 6 at Aracoma Park in Mingo Junction.

St. Patrick's Day door prizes were presented by Roxanne Matusik to Charlotte Christian, Jeannette Panebianco, Lou Panebianco, Elizabeth Shipe, Karen Krause, Joann Llewellyn, Chris Sklenar, Marge Serafini, Laura Mamula and Barbara Jean Losey. April door prizes will be presented by John and Donna Balzano.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday at Undo's in Weirton. Entertainment will be provided by Bobbyjon Bauman and representatives of the Sycamore Youth Center.
Master Gardener volunteers plan Earth Day Garden Party
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson and Harrison Master Gardener volunteers are organizing an Earth Day Garden Party.
The public can join the Jefferson and Harrison Master Gardener volunteers beginning at 9 a.m. on April 22 starting at the Scio Branch Library, lower level, 331 W. Main St., Scio, to learn about recycling programs, herbs, heirlooms and more.
Participants will enjoy hands-on learning and get to take home a floral arrangement.
The topic lineup includes:
– "Heirloom Seeds from Italy" with Ryan Smith;
– "Trash to Treasure" with Louise Holliday, JB Green Team;
– "Grocery Store Floral Arrangements Make and Take" with Nancy Mead, OSU Master Gardener volunteer;
– "Kitchen Gardens" with a speaker to be announced; and
– A garden question and answer panel.
Registration for the spring garden party is $45 per person to cover speaker fees, craft supplies and handouts. Lunch will be provided. St. Agnes CWC plans to hold Mother-Daughter Tea May 21
MINGO JUNCTION -- The St. Agnes Catholic Woman's Club met March 21 at with President Theresa Madden leading the prayer, pledge and grace, followed by the luncheon provided by Jeannette Panebianco, Mary Ross, Joanne Raha and Leanne Hutton.
There were 27 members in attendance. Madden thanked all those who decorated for the Rite of Election luncheon and to those who served, helped with cleanup and made desserts. Paula Robson took the leftover desserts to the Friendship Room in Steubenville.
Paula Diorio read the minutes of the last meeting, which were approved as read, and Raha gave the treasurer's report, which was accepted and will be filed for audit.
Correspondence included thank-you notes from the Brothers of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Rev. Jonas Shell for gifts from the deanery to which the club donated.
Madden reminded members about the need for workers and desserts for the fish frys; the date for the Day of Spirituality at St. Mary's in St. Clairsville; and the DCCW Convention that will be held June 7 at Holy Family Church in Steubenville. The deanery is in charge of the breakfast, and each unit will contribute $30 toward it.
Peggy Downs was the guest speaker at the deanery meeting on March 19. She spoke on the Rosary Congress and the Eucharistic Revival website and encouraged the women to participate in these activities.
Madden told members that there is a good presentation on the Eucharist. It is available at www.eucharisticrevival.org/learn-resources.
In regard to shut-ins, Rose Chappano volunteered to be in contact with Maggie Kosikowski.
Madden announced that the CWC is donating an altar cloth embroidered with the words "Donated by the St. Agnes Catholic Woman's Club in honor of the Franciscan Sisters who served in Mingo Junction, Ohio" to the Franciscan Sisters in Manitowoc. It will be finished in May. The members wrote thank-you cards to the sisters who have served at St. Agnes.
Theresa Jurasko has offered to fill the spirituality commission position.
Debbie Riccardo presented the idea of having a Mother-Daughter Tea in May. It was agreed to have the event on May 21. A committee was established.
Michael Danielson will be received into the Catholic Church on Easter Sunday morning. A reception will be held to welcome him after Mass on April 16. Members volunteered to handle this.
A hot dog lunch will be held for the First Communicants and their families after their practice on May 6. Members volunteered to work for this event.
Debbie Riccardo, chairperson of the donations committee, reported that the CWC has money left in the local fund and the national/international fund. She recommended that donations be made to the Mingo Junction-based Bay Six Project for its giveaway of Easter food baskets, and to Aid to the Church, an organization that serves the suffering and persecuted around the world. Members approved.
Kathy Flippo reported that the members of the leadership commission met to compile a list of ideas to help achieve the goals of the CWC and the leadership commission.
Eileen Moody won the 50/50 drawing.
The meeting ended with the Rev. James Dunfee leading the members in closing. The next meeting is April 18. Hostesses will be Michelle Trikones, Michele Fabbro and Kathy Flippo.
