BLOOMINGDALE -- The Jefferson County Joint Vocational School was the setting for the annual Youth Iron Chef competition held March 25. It involved teams from 4-H clubs around the county.
"The teams arrived with their table decorations, homemade placemat and food ready to go," explained Leslie Aftanas, 4-H/ANR program assistant, Ohio State University Extension.
"The judges would judge on appearance (plating and placemat); knowledge of what they made; degree of difficulty on the recipe; and the use of the secret ingredient -- honey," she noted.
"The Youth Iron Chef competition is an annual event that encourages young people to explore their culinary skills and creativity. With the use of honey as a secret ingredient, this year's competition showcased the versatility and sweetness of this natural ingredient. Congratulations to the local 4-H clubs and kids that participated," Aftanas added.
