WINTERSVILLE — The Jefferson County Christian School will present this year’s spring musical “The Prodigal Daughter: A Modern Parable.”

The play is a modern version of the New Testament parable “The Prodigal Son” found in Luke 15:11-32 and is an original script and musical score written by Lisa Foster, a teacher at the school.

“This is such a classic, relatable story,” Foster said. “Though the musical reflects modern times, at its heart, it’s still this beautiful story about forgiveness and second chances.”

In the story, a young woman named Clara is weary of working at her family’s successful underwear company while waiting to receive her inheritance “someday.” Like the prodigal son, Clara demands her share of the family fortune and sets off to see the world and all it has to offer. She makes some reckless choices, however, and soon faces devastating hardships.

Rebekah Shoemaker stars as Clara, the prodigal daughter, Emilee Jackson plays Clara’s mother and Trenton Zimmerman is Todd, Clara’s brother.

There are three performances: March 23 and March 24, both starting at 7 p.m., and March 25, beginning at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $8 and can be purchased online at https://signup.com/go/bAZPeis or contact the school office at (740) 275-4326.

“‘The Prodigal Daughter: A Modern Parable’ is a family-friendly show you won’t want to miss,” foster added.
