Indian Creek to present ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

WINTERSVILLE -- A lovestruck florist and his bloodthirsty bud lead the Indian Creek High School Drama Club's presentation of "Little Shop of Horrors."

Students will stage their spring musical on Friday and April 1 and 6 at 7 p.m. and April 2 and 8 with a 3 p.m. matinee. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for students. Bobby Zinsmeister, drama/theater teacher, will direct the performances in the school's auditorium.

"It's a tale about love, hope and a man-eating plant," he quipped.

"Little Shop of Horrors" is based on the 1980s hit Broadway musical and film of the same name and follows a floral shop worker who discovers a carnivorous plant that feeds on human blood.

The cast includes Carter Brown as Seymour, Milana Bressler and Abigail Zinsmeister as Audrey, Kirsten Driscoll as the voice and Ezra Dennis as the puppeteer for Audrey II, Bella Pitts as Chiffon, Veronica Diaz as Crystal, Ava Hooper as Ronette, Miea Lucas as Mushnik, Jay Gorman as Orin, Abigail Dennis as Bernstein, Skylar Hardwick as Mrs. Luce, Spencer Richards as Skip Snip and Ava Christian as Patrick Martin with Skylar Hardwick, Spencer Richards, Ava Christian and Abigail Dennis also as ensemble urchins.

Zinsmeister thanked parents who have supported the club by assisting with scenery construction.

"I'm very fortunate to have ongoing parent involvement," he added. "I'm really proud and the kids have been doing a really good job. They are very excited about the production."

His students began presenting radio plays this past fall that are available on their ICHS Theatre YouTube channel.

New equipment recently was acquired to bolster the programs, and more plans are in the works. "Little Shop" is the club's only performance this school year but Zinsmeister has an eye on possibly expanding offerings.

"Next year, I would like to do a fall play," he added.

"The eventual idea is for the students to oversee the radio play," he said. "It's my hope that it runs concurrently."
