EGCC to hold alumni dinner, awards night on April 14
STEUBENVILLE -- Eastern Gateway Community College will hold its first alumni dinner and awards night on April 14 at St. Florian Event Center, located at 286 Luray Drive, Wintersville.
Alumni and their families and friends are invited to attend the event in honor and celebration of the alumni and the legacy of EGCC, according to Kelley Frazi, EGCC alumni coordinator. The keynote speaker will be Ed Florak, a former president of the college.
The cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and include entry and dinner. The deadline to purchase tickets is April 1. Questions can be directed to Frazier at alumni@egcc.edu.
Hills Elementary is hosting
spring vendor show March 25
MINGO JUNCTION -- Hills Elementary School will usher in the spring season with the third-annual Crafts and Vendors Show on March 25.
The event, which is sponsored by the school PTO, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school on Wilson Avenue in Mingo Junction and features plenty of merchandise as well as food trucks, a silent auction, a 50-50 drawing and even a visit from a certain holiday hare.
PTO President A.J. Renner said it returned last year following a COVID hiatus, and the public can expect lots to do and see.
"We raised $2,000 for the PTO and split half of it with the Bay Six Project (community nonprofit)," Renner said. "Last year, we were able to have 36 different vendors, and some of them were sold out."
This time, shoppers can browse among local T-shirt displays, handcrafted wood signs, homemade metal art, decorative wreaths, crafts, primitive candles and more.
A Girl Scout cookie booth will be on hand, and Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny also will make an appearance. Vendors will be located in the gym, cafeteria and along the main corridor while the food trucks will be parked outside the building.
"Last year, we also asked vendors to donate books and now we will try to give away books since our book vending machine is flourishing," she added.
A portion of this year's proceeds will benefit the school's food pantry and clothes closet. The site takes donations of new and gently used items all year, and anyone interested in donating may contact Erin Alloggia or Ginny Pawelczyk at the school at (740) 283-2479.

Harmony UMC having soup, sweets fundraiser on March 11
MINGO JUNCTION -- Harmony United Methodist Church, located at 2119 Commercial Ave., Mingo Junction, is having a soup and sweets sale with orders under way for the March 11 fundraiser.
Vegetable and bean soup at $7 a quart is available along with a variety of sweets. To place an order, contact Jim McClung at (740) 535-0730.
Orders can be picked up after 11:30 a.m. on March 11.
Weir High Class of 1970 to hold dinner meeting on Wednesday
WEIRTON -- Members of the Weir High Class of 1970 will hold their monthly class dinner on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The dinner will be held at Mario's Restaurant, located at 3806 Main St., Weirton. All classmates and their guests are invited to attend.
Lysanky Ukranian egg
workshop scheduled March 18
STEUBENVILLE -- Leonardo's Coffeehouse at 157 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, and the Steubenville Cultural Trust are hosting a Pysanky Ukranian egg workshop.

Oil and Gas update today
CADIZ -- The Ohio Oil and Gas Association will present an update on the state of the industry with a presentation called "Who is Doing What, Where and How is It Going" today at 6 p.m. at the Puskarich Public Library in Cadiz.
The discussion will include a permit and production update, the 2023 oil and gas industry outlook as well as challenges and opportunities that lay ahead in Harrison County and beyond.
Dan DeWitt, a representative from the National Association of Royalty Owners Ohio Chapter, will discuss important issues for mineral owners.
