New Cumberland Lions Club
awards Chevron at meeting
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The New Cumberland Lions Club met March 8 with President Andrew Kefer. presiding.
The prayer was offered by Pam Stiles with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Ed Fields. The minutes were accepted as read, and the treasurer's report was placed on file for audit.
Communications were received from Lion Bill Syphers with a request for delegates and the W.Va. Lion with voting information. Under unfinished business, feedback on future fundraisers and service projects was requested. Several fundraisers were discussed as well as two service projects.
Fields was congratulated and awarded with a Chevron noting 40 years as a member of the New Cumberland Lions Club.
Under new business, delegates were selected for the upcoming online District 29L election, including Betsy Wells, Jim Wells, Pam Stiles, Tom Stiles and Joyce Young.
The slate of officers for the 2022-23 club year is being compiled with Betsy Wells chairing the committee as immediate past president.
Kefer welcomed the return of Bob Manypenny.
Dinner fundraiser Thursday
at Hill Top Fellowship Hall
TORONTO -- Hill Top Presbyterian Church will hold a soup and sandwich drive-through dinner fundraiser at the fellowship hall, located at the intersection of county Road 46 and state Route 213, Toronto.
It will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The time was incorrect on Friday's community page.
"There's no need to leave your vehicle -- just drive through and pick up your dinner," a spokesperson noted.
The menu and prices are: One quart of soup, $7 for vegetable, chicken noodle, broccoli cheese or chili; sandwiches: $5 for shredded chicken and barbecued ham sandwiches; and $2 for hot dogs.
Tuna Wednesdays, St Patrick's Day event at Hancock center
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Hancock County Senior Center, located at 647 Gas Valley Road, New Cumberland, is having "Tuna Wednesday" each Wednesday during March.
The Lenten special will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the cost is $7.
The tuna lunch meal is tuna melt on rye with either pasta or macaroni salad, chips and a drink or tuna salad on a kaiser roll with either pasta or macaroni salad, chips and a drink.

The center also is hosting a St. Patrick's Day event on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that will include folk music and food. It includes lunch for $7.
