Steubenville parade winners announced

STEUBENVILLE -- The 2021 Eastern Gateway Community College Steubenville Sights & Sounds of Christmas parade was one for the record books, organizers say.
A sunny day and warm temperatures brought area residents in unexpected numbers, Mayor Jerry Barilla said. This year's parade wasn't televised, which was a factor as well.
"It was one of the largest I've watched in many, many, many years," he said. "Fourth Street was lined from North Street, where the parade began, to South Street. It was phenomenal to see that many people lining the street."
Some 75 bands, floats and marching units entered this year's parade. Judged winners this year were:
Mayor's Prize: Wells Academy;
Float category: Eastern Construction & Excavating, first; Brenda Casey Dance Center, second; and the Grand Theater, third.
Non-float category: The Grinch & Cindy Lou-Who (John Dolak and Trinity Nicole Porreca), first; Jefferson County Humane Society, second; Indian Creek High School Marching Band and Steubenville Big Red Band, tied for third.
Richard Pflug, a longtime businessman and community benefactor, and his wife, Heidi, served as grand marshals.
"It was a magical moment," Barilla said.
