WELLSBURG -- Brooke Hills Playhouse continues its celebratory 50th season with its third production, "A Return to Neverland with Tinker Bell," written by Patrick Flynn, which will run July 23-25 and 30-31 and Aug. 1.
Municipal Mutual Insurance Co. and Traubert's Pharmacy are Playhouse season sponsors.
Brooke County Arts Council President Julia Barnhart of Wellsburg is directing. "I am so happy to be back with a children's show, which we did not have last season, due to the pandemic. My cast is so excited," she said.
This children's show is Tinker Bell's side of the story. When all the fairies in Neverland start dying, Tinker Bell comes to London to find a friend. There she meets a young boy named Peter Pan who has just run away from his family so he can be a little boy forever and have fun.
When Tink takes Peter to Neverland, all sorts of wonderful and amazing things happen -- flowers grow, animals appear and pirates arrive. But as Peter brings more Lost Boys and the Darling children back to her island, Tink finds she doesn't like sharing her friend with anyone else, especially that Wendy girl.
This fresh and intensively theatrical adaptation of the classic story emphasizes play and fun as well as the complicated nature of friendship. A new, twinkling light shines on all the characters viewers love as J.M. Barrie's story is reborn from this feisty fairy's point of view.
In the cast are Kelly Salatino from Wellsburg playing Tinkerbell; Jazmyn Wood from Wellsburg as Peter Pan; Tucker Wood from Wellsburg as Mr. Smee; Richard Twist Oliver from Chester as Captain James Hook; Lacy Quering from Burgettstown as Wendy; Olive Scherich from Weirton as John; and Lola Scherich from Weirton as Michael.
Other castmates include Hannah Charlton from Wellsburg as Tootles and Mrs. Darling; Sophia Wilkerson from Follansbee as Nibs; Natalie DeFilippis from Avella as Slightly, Kamryn Lloyd from Wellsburg as Curly; Maddie Rees from Wellsburg as First Twin; Carter Biggerstaff from Follansbee as Second Twin; and J.P. Wilkerson from Follansbee as Crocodile.
Pirates include Amy Balog from Follansbee; Chelsey Barnhart from Follansbee; Shannon Box from Wellsburg; Savannah Garrison from Weirton; and Sarah Tennant from Follansbee.
Flowers are Charlotte Box from Wellsburg and Olive Scherich, Lola Scherich and Violet Scherich, all of Weirton.
The Lost Boys, Toodles, Nibs, Slightly, the Twins and Curly also will appear as animals.
