WEIRTON --The Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center is hosting a Get on the Bus with Us! banquet and celebration at the Serbian Picnic Grounds on Aug. 26 to raise funds to create a permanent home and restoration space for P&W Bus No. 99.
Giamatti's Catering will provide a multicourse meal, and there will be live entertainment along with prize drawings. Tickets are $50 each and include a complimentary drink.
Proceeds benefit the construction of No. 99's new home, explained Savannah Schroll Guz, executive director of the museum and cultural center.
Tickets can be purchased at the museum at 31409 Main St., Weirton, or online at http://weirtonareamuseum.com/bus/.
For all those who purchase tickets, a drawing will be held at the event, and 10 winners will have an opportunity to ride the bus in a future parade.
No. 99 returned to Weirton in the late summer of 2019 after years of standing exposed in a salvage yard near Akron.
Dennis Jones, museum director at the time, had No. 99 towed home, "and she is currently across the street from the museum under a protective silver tarp, waiting for the next chapter in her story to begin," Guz noted.
"Not only will No. 99's new home provide a protected space where she will remain dry and where volunteers can work on her safely, the building will become a visitor annex available for tours," she said.
The museum and cultural center is dedicated to preserving Weirton's history and culture for future generations.
Museum hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
