East Springfield Community Center dinner set for Thursday

EAST SPRINGFIELD — The East Springfield Community Center will host its monthly fundraiser dinner on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The dinner menu will be baked tavern ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, green beans, bread, dessert and drink. The cost is $9. Patrons can get carryout dinners or dine inside. Orders can be called in to (740) 543-3700.

The monthly dinners are held on the second Thursday of the month.

The center is located on county Road 39 next to the East Springfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Mingo Knights of Columbus

having dinner on July 13

MINGO JUNCTION — The Mingo Knights of Columbus Council 4361 will be having a dinner at 6 p.m. on July 13 at the hall for all brother knights and widows who sold their charity tickets.

The dinner, which is free for them, will include the installation of officers for the 2021-22 year. Anyone can attend the dinner. For tickets and to make reservations, call (740) 535-8037.

Foundation’s seventh-annual

golf scramble set for Saturday

STEUBENVILLE — The Cynthia Rose Phillipson Charitable Foundation will hold its seventh-annual golf scramble on Saturday at the Cadiz Country Club with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.

The fundraiser will include silent auction items and a 50/50 drawing. Sunset Motors is providing a car for a hole in one on hole No. 11 at Cadiz Country Club.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Cynthia Rose Phillipson Charitable Foundation. For information on the foundation, visit cynthiaphillipson.org

The cost to golf is $90 per person and $360 for a team. Each participant will receive a gift.

Levels of sponsorship available are: Platinum, $500, event sponsor; gold, $350, co-sponsor; silver, $200; hole sponsor; and bronze, $100, prize donation on hole or auction item.

Checks can be made payable to: Cynthia Rose Phillipson Charitable Foundation or Cynthia Phillipson Foundation and mailed to 190 Anthony Drive, Wintersville, OH 43953.

‘Mystery Island’ theme of VBS

hosted by Weirton church

WEIRTON — First United Methodist Church, locted at 3301 West St., is holding Vacation Bible School from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on July 11-15.

It is free and open to children ages 5 to 12. This year’s theme is “Mystery Island: Tracking Down the One True God.” Children will participate in Bible study, music, crafts, sports, be served dinner and be provided a take-home lunch sack.

Pre-registration is preferred by contacting Holly Greaver at (304) 374-0945. Children also can be registered by a parent at the start of the event.

Those who do not pre-register are asked to arrive 15 minutes early that day of VBS.

Railroad memorabilia featured Sunday at Bergholz museum

BERGHOLZ — The Bergholz Area Museum will be open Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

Railroad memorabilia will be featured plus a railroad display provided by Austin Broadzinski.

Area antique milk bottles also will be on display.

The museum’s permanent collection includes history related to area businesses, mines, schools and surrounding communities in Jefferson County.

The museum is located at 268 Second St., Bergholz, next to the Bergholz Diner. Admission is free.

Virtual evening story hour Thursday at Brooke Library

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will hold a virtual evening story hour, in which children may create their own stuffed animals, at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

having sandwich sale July 16

WEIRTON — The Weirton American Legion, 3140 Pennsylvania Ave., is having a sandwich sale on July 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This month’s feature is sloppy joes and chips for $3. There also will be a “specialty drink” for $3 along with basket drawings and a 50-50 drawing.
