Greater Zion Temple Church plans food giveaway Saturday
STEUBENVILLE -- Greater Zion Temple Church, located at 500 N. Fifth St., Steubenville, is having a food giveaway on Saturday from 11 a.m. in the church parking lot until supplies are gone.
All are welcome, and no identification information is required to receive a box as part of the Farmers To Families food box program.
Memorial Day breakfast, lunch at Wayne Township Center
UNIONPORT -- A Memorial Day breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday at the Wayne Township Community Center in Unionport.
The menu includes sausage gravy and biscuits, scrambled eggs and toast. Cost is by donation with proceeds to benefit upkeep of the center.
The Memorial Day lunch will be held at the center from noon to 2 p.m. The menu includes sloppy joes, hot dogs, potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans and assorted cakes. Cost is by donations with proceeds to benefit the ladies auxillary.
Freedom Friday service at First Westminster Church
STEUBENVILLE -- First Westminster Presbyterian Church, 235 N. Fourth St., will hold a Freedom Friday service today, beginning at 7 p.m.
The service was scheduled to be outside, but anticipated inclement weather will likely move the event indoors, according to Amy Parikakis, the church's director of marketing and communications.
It will combine patriotic music, worship, prayer, games, activities for children and food.
Participants in the service led by the Rev. Jason Elliott, the church's pastor, will be the Tri-State Young Marines, presentation of the flags; music by Glory Dami, Dave Meyer, Hannah Meyer, Dani Carroll, Dale Swickard and Wayne and Cynthia Lytle; the folding of the flag by Marine Corps veterans Norman Winstel and Shawn Sherwood; freedom prayer, Parikakis; and taps and "Reveille" by Rick Hicks.
Local chapter of S.O.A.R. plans annual picnic June 17
WEIRTON -- The local chapter of S.O.A.R., an acronym for Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees, will hold its annual picnic on June 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Follansbee Community Park on Main Street in Follansbee.
Members are encouraged to bring a guest.
A speaker will be a part of the program with a 50/50 drawing and prizes to be awarded.

Brooke library offering activity bags in Wellsburg, Follansbee
WELLSBURG -- Brooke County Public Libraries is offering activity bags, which can be picked up at the Wellsburg or Follansbee locations.

Weir High Class of 1970 schedules Wednesday meeting
WEIRTON -- The Weir High Class of 1970 will meet on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Mario's Restaurant, 3806 Main St., Weirton. All classmates and their spouses are invited to attend.
Plans for the "50 + 1" reunion will be discussed. The reunion will be held on Aug. 21 at Williams Country Club.
Pottery Addition VFD to host Touch A Truck on June 13
POTTERY ADDITION -- The Pottery Addition Volunteer Fire Department, located at 448 Kingsdale Road, Steubenville, will host a "Touch A Truck" from noon to 4 p.m. on June 13.
The event offers a hands-on opportunity for children to explore emergency vehicles, meet the firefighters who operates them and learn what it takes to be a first responder.
Admission is free but donations are welcome.
COVID-19 precautionary guidelines will be followed with frequent cleanings and sanitizer stations available for use.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
Sycamore representatives part of Two Ridges service
WINTERSVILLE -- The OVYN/Sycamore Youth Center representatives will be providing talent and an inspirational message at the 9:30 a.m. worship service at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, 1085 Canton Road.
Sharing words of hope and his personal testimony will be Lawrence Lewis, a Steubenville High School junior and Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader who is a part of the Sycamore Student Leadership Program. Bobbyjon Bauman, center director, will share about the Sycamore Youth Center summer programming and Mobile Food Pantry Initiative.
Providing entertainment, in addition to Lewis, will be Olivia Huval, Bella Thompson, the Ambassadors Mime Team, Kaly Shafer and Nathan Bauman.
