WELLSBURG -- Jami Packer, a math teacher at Brooke Middle School, has been selected for West Virginia University's Mathematics Master Teacher Fellowship Program.

Packer is one of 19 educators from 17 counties participating through a $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation's Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program.

During the five-year program, Packer will continue to work at her school while learning effective teaching approaches from Matthew Campbell, WVU assistant professor of education, and Joanna Burt Kinderman, an instructional coach for Pocohontas County recognized for her educational leadership in 2019 by Education Week.

Brooke County Superintendent Jeffrey Crook said, "The Brooke County Schools community is extremely proud of Ms. Packer for what she does in and out of the classroom to make sure all her students are successful in the classroom.

"The fellowship is extremely beneficial for the entire district because of the shared instructional best practices that will occur across the state of West Virginia. Ms. Packer is an ambassador for mathematics instruction and we truly appreciate her participation in the fellows program."
