Adopt A Turkey

The Community Bread Basket in Weirton has been blessed for many years to have received 150 turkeys from Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort for the Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets, but because of a downturn in the economy, there will not be a turkey donation this year. Tara Sheperd, program administrator for CBB, has a new idea, however, and it’s called, Adopt a Turkey. “We are asking the community to help by donating $15 to purchase a turkey,” Sheperd explained. “You also can help by donating a gift card or by dropping off a turkey at 3501 West St. We really appreciate your support,” Sheperd added. Those planning to drop off a turkey are asked to call the CBB at (304) 748-7595. The CBB also is in need of volunteers each week. Individuals who have a truck and are willing to donate about one to two hours each week can contact Jim Pauchnik at (304) 670-8637 for information. Hopeful for help from the community are CBB representatives, from left, Bob Johnson, Betty Trickett, JoAnn McLain, Sheperd, Carolyn Johnson, Don Eafrati, Bernie Jackson, Jan Futey, Debbie Ekas and Jeanie Montgomery.
