The Steubenville Diocesan Men’s Day of Renewal will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at St. Stephen’s Church in Caldwell off exit 25 of I-77.
The renewal will challenge its participants “to become true men of God, dynamic Catholic leaders who will change the world, beginning with their families, their parishes, their communities and the marketplace through their jobs,” according to Paul Sebastian, event steering committee member.
To complement the Mass presided by Bishop Jeffrey M. Monforton of the Catholic Diocese of Steubenville and reconciliation service, the featured speaker will be Matthew Leonard, author and executive director of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology in Steubenville.
The father of five children, Leonard “proclaims the power of prayer as an unusually dynamic and captivating speaker to audiences all over the United and abroad. He will first speak on the art of being a true Catholic, while giving the men an appreciation of the faith and helping them to become effective witnesses in our secular society,” according to Sebastian. “Later in the day he will show that prayer works – prayer is power and will help the men to learn how to pray more effectively and grow in holiness.”
Leonard has written two books – “Louder Than Words – the Art of Living as a Catholic” and “Prayer Works – Getting a Grip on Catholic Spirituality.” He discovered “the coherence, the beauty and the splendor of the Catholic faith in 1998,” according to a news release. After obtaining a master’s degree in theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville, he became a real estate development executive in Chicago and later a theology instructor at Ave Maria University in Florida.
The theme of the conference is “Rise Up Oh Men of God” with St. Joseph as its patron. The goal is “to focus on the spiritual development of the men of our diocese.”
There will be a holy hour of Eucharistic Adoration and optional Lenten confession. The conference is open to teens, so this also can be a father-and-son event, a shared experience. Non-Catholics also are welcome to attend. Registration will be conducted at the door.
