Clara Potenzini earns DAISY Award

STEUBENVILLE -- Clara Potenzini of Trinity Health System has received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the work nurses perform every day.
The nomination submitted for Potenzini read: “She is a fantastic nurse, a dedicated patient advocate, a preceptor and a mentor to so many of our staff members.”
Potenzini consistently goes above and beyond for her patients and their families every day, and she is truly loved by them. In fact, she has received the most award nominations at the facility.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes.
Barnes died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, a little-known, but not uncommon, autoimmune disease. The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this way of thanking nurses for making a difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
“When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced firsthand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night,” Bonnie Barnes, co-founder of the DAISY Foundation, said. “Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the superhuman work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Trinity Health System are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of the DAISY Award.”
“Clara has compassion and holds her staff accountable,” Wendy Ralston, director of nursing for Trinity Health System, said. “She is the true definition of a patient advocate.”
In addition to the DAISY Award , the foundation expresses gratitude to the nursing profession internationally in more than 5,000 health care facilities and schools of nursing with recognition of nurse-led teams, nurse leaders; nurses advancing health equity; nursing faculty; nursing students; lifetime achievement in nursing; and through the J. Patrick Barnes Grants for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Projects, medical mission grants, and the new Health Equity Grant programs.
