Milk & Honey Farm Stead offers fresh food options
Craig Howell FRESH AND DELICIOUS – Members of the Brooke County Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting Thursday for Milk & Honey Farm Stand, located at 8 Par Three Drive in Follansbee. In its second year, the self-serve stand offers a variety of fresh, homemade baked goods and breads, locally sourced items, and more.
FOLLANSBEE – A little stand nestled in a Highland Hills neighborhood is bringing fresh breads, produce and more to area residents.
“I have a love for cooking and baking,” explained Chelsea Westfall, owner of Milk & Honey Farm Stand, during a ribbon cutting held Thursday with members of the Brooke County Area Chamber of Commerce, noting she and her family tend to have diets focused on fresh foods, free of dyes or preservatives. “I wanted to offer something like that for the community.”
Located at 8 Par Three Drive, Follansbee, the business’ name is a reference to Exodus 3:8, where God, speaking to Moses from the burning bush, reveals the plan to rescue the Israelites from Egypt and lead them to “a land flowing with milk and honey.”
This is the second year for the farm stand, which is approved by the Department and Agriculture, and operates on Saturdays, beginning at 8 a.m. and running until items sell out.
Milk & Honey Farm Stand is stocked with homemade, homegrown and locally sourced items, including baked goods, eggs and produce, as well as items from other local vendors.
The menu of available items can change from week-to-week, with updates provided through their Facebook page and website.
“It’s a self-serve stand,” Westfall noted, explaining there are instructions at the stand, including QR codes for those who wish to pay by Venmo or through their website.
A cash option also is available, and those making a purchase are asked to fill out a sheet listing their names, the date, purchases and payment amount.
The stand also includes an outdoor camera system, both to monitor activity and to allow customers to ask questions.
“It’s worked out really well,” she said.
