Hulu’s ‘Prison Break’ reboot to film in Moundsville and Wheeling

File Photo ON LOCATION — The former Moundsville Penitentiary will be a setting for Hulu's upcoming reboot of the show "Prison Break." Producers are currently looking for extras to be part of the filming.
MOUNDSVILLE — The pilot of the upcoming reboot of the TV show “Prison Break” will film in June in Moundsville, and the show is looking for extras to be part of the filming.
The new pilot from 20th Television will be filmed for Hulu. Producers are looking for extras to play prisoners, guards, body builders, townspeople, line dancers and more. All ages and types are encouraged to apply but producers are especially seeking men ages 18 and older for many of the scenes. No experience is necessary.
Filming will take place in Moundsville at the old West Virginia Penitentiary and in Wheeling from June 6-30, though no filming will take place Saturdays or Sundays.
Pay is $210 for a 12-hour guarantee. Extras are to expect 12-14-hour shoot days. Overtime is paid after 12 hours.
Filming times vary and usually begin early, but there are times when they may be later and go into the night. Extras must have transportation to and from the set.
The original show ran from 2005-09 on Fox and starred Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. Purcell played Lincoln Burrows, wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to death, while Wentworth Miller played his brother, Michael Scofield, who attempts to clear Burrows’ name.
The reboot is directed by Elgin James, who was a writer/director for the show “Mayans M.C.”
Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy said the filming was an “amazing opportunity for the city.”
“We’re excited that they’re coming, and while it will create some traffic issues around areas where they’re filming for short periods, it’s a great thing,” Healy said. “We’re absolutely happy that they’re coming.”
Healy added that anytime filming at the penitentiary occurs, it allows for Moundsville to “get its name out in a good way” and drive tourism to the area.
