NAMED TO BOARD: Dr. Akshay Khandelwal, system chair of Allegheny Health Network's department of cardiovascular medicine, has been appointed to the American College of Cardiology Board of Trustees as treasurer. The appointment was officially announced Monday during ACC's global conference in Atlanta.
"I'm extremely honored to serve on the board of trustees for the ACC, and I look forward to working alongside distinguished leaders in the field to continue the organization's remarkable work of advancing cardiovascular care for patients around the world," Khandelwal said.
Khandelwal was appointed AHN's system chair in June. He practices as an interventional cardiologist specializing in treating heart disease with catheter-based techniques. His areas of expertise include complex coronary interventions, such as angioplasty and stent procedures, as well as diagnostic cardiology.
"Khandelwal is an invaluable asset to the AHN Cardiovascular Institute, and it has been a privilege to witness his remarkable leadership skills and compassionate care delivery for his patients since his arrival to Allegheny Health Network," said Dr. Stephen Bailey, chair of the AHN Cardiovascular Institute. "On behalf of the entire institute, we're thrilled he has been appointed to the board of trustees of the American College of Cardiology. His research and clinical contributions to the field have been significant, and we're beyond confident that he will serve the ACC with distinction."
