STEUBENVILLE -- The Eastern Gateway Community College Police Academy is accepting students for the spring semester to help address the demand for local law enforcement officers in Jefferson, Belmont, Harrison and Carroll counties, and many other locations in the state of Ohio.
Police academy classes begin in January with coursework at the Jefferson County Campus running through August.
"We look forward to meeting Eastern Gateway's newest class of police recruits. Students will benefit from a comprehensive and hands-on approach to training that will give them the tools they need to be successful," said John Crooks, EGCC's interim president. "Our last two graduating classes had an employment rate of 100 percent, with all peace officers able to find full-time positions in the Ohio Valley and all across Ohio. We look forward to another year of training officers to keep their communities safe."
"We're very excited to welcome our next class at Eastern Gateway's Police Academy. Our graduates are highly sought because we provide them with the training they need to be effective the first day they are on the job," said Police Academy Commander William Rensi.
To apply for the police academy, contact Rensi at (740) 266-9675 or e-mail him at wrensi@egcc.edu.
New students must visit egcc.edu and complete an online application, apply for financial aid (if needed) and complete the college application. A visit to the enrollment office is recommended.
Applicants must also fill out additional Ohio peace officer paperwork in person at the commander's office, located in Room 2514 on the Eastern Gateway Jefferson County campus. The deadline for applying for the January class ends Jan. 5. A background check, drug test and physical are required during the application process.
Looking toward future classes, the fall police academy will start the application process in May, and will start in August.
