STEUBENVILLE POLICE

Cheating hearts: A woman who found her significant other "with another woman" at a location in the 700 block of Oakmont Avenue said he "struck her in the face multiple times" Wednesday. Police said she had a visible mark on her face and her lip was bleeding and wants to press charges but when they tried to make contact with him "he would not come to the door."

Big buy: A caller whose daughter went to a cell phone store several months ago for an upgrade said the clerk assisting her sent several texts to his phone to allow changes to the account. He told police Tuesday he had discovered an unexpected $1,500 charge on his account and his carrier determined fraudulent activity on his account was "stemming from (his daughter's) visit."

Puddling up: The general manager of the Coen station in the 900 block of N. 7th Street told police Tuesday a woman comes to the store on a weekly basis driving a silver sedan, "pretending" to gas up but never activates the pump and when she pulls away there's "always a large puddle of gasoline left behind." When employees talked to her about it they said she claimed her vehicle "leaks fuel," but if that were the case she'd leave a trail of gasoline through the lot as she left instead of just a "large amount of gasoline" puddled in front of the pump.

Plugged: A female in the Crestline Drive area apparently took more than the recommended dose of mucus relief pills and collapsed Tuesday. A friend thought the bottle was full before she downed a handful of the pills inside. Police said 17 pills were missing from the bottle. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Vandals: A homeowner said two juveniles threw a piece of brick through the glass on her storm door Tuesday. She said the two were "pre-teens" and ran away, but not before she grabbed a picture on her cell.

Cited: Staci D. Walsh, 57, 340 Genteel Ridge Rd., Wellsburg, speeding (school zone) and expired registration.

JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF

Repetitive behavior: A Bergholz woman said Tuesday she let a man borrow her car again but he hadn't returned it. Deputies said she had the same complaint a week ago and advised her to "stop letting him take it," but she did anyway.

Nervous Nellie: A caller concerned Wednesday about her sister's welfare because of a run-in her sister and boyfriend had a couple days earlier with his brother. She believed he'd brandished a gun, but deputies said the couple told them the male was upset because he couldn't find his work clothes. They said they were concerned because of "his temper and his size."

Off easy: A Bergholz man trying to buy sheep for his farm said Monday a scammer convinced him to make a $200 down payment for one he'd seen advertised on Craig's List, only to have the "seller" try to talk him into advancing more money, but he sensed the scam and declined. He said looked at another ad on Craig's List and realized the same woman had posted it but used a different email address and phone number.
