STEUBENVILLE POLICE
Stolen: A Lawson Avenue resident reported the theft of five bicycles Wednesday, but two bikes that were defective were left behind. A reward was offered.
Threats: Another city resident told police she's getting "threatening messages about people (coming) to her residence to assault her" Thursday. She said a woman known to her is doing it.
Code issues: Notices of violation were set to owners/occupants of properties at 1326 Wellesley Ave., 1328 Wellesley Ave. and 1526 Wellesley Ave., all for high grass.
Cited: Dwight J. Macon, 34, 600 Dresden Ave., Steubenville, driving under suspension and blocking traffic. Police said Macon was seen blocking traffic on Sunset Boulevard to drop children off at school' Lucas E. Jones, 36, 430 Canton Road, Apt. 15, Wintersville, speeding (school zone); Janice Dacorone, St. Augustine, FL, and Mariana Taylor, Reisterstown, MD, blocking a fire hydrant on Columbus Circle at Woodlawn.
Filtered down: A downtown resident complained Wednesday she's being harassed by a female who had a problem with her brother earlier in the day. She said the woman is "calling and texting her phone" and is having her family members do it, too.
Bothered: A woman calling from a location in the 400 block of Madison Avenue told police she'd been harassed by a male who also threatened to hit her Wednesday. He'd already fled the scene but when police offered her a ride to her home on Pleasant Heights she refused it.
Problem kids: Callers reported juveniles fighting Wednesday at a business in the 2100 block of Sunset Boulevard.
Desperate: A man at an Oakmont Avenue residence asked police to take custody of a small backpack a woman had stashed in bushes by his brother's house Wednesday. He said the woman had been "squatting down next to his brother's vehicle in their driveway" and changed her shirt, then wandered through his backyard. He said he had no idea what was in the bag but he'd never seen her before and didn't want it on the property. Police said it contained clothing and hygiene products and told the man if she came back to tell her it would be at the police station for safekeeping.
Road blocker: A caller reported a vehicle parked in the middle of Oakmont Avenue Wednesday. Neighbors had no idea who it belonged to so police called for a tow truck. When it arrived, the owner "came outside and advised (she was) a mid-wife and in a hurry," so she parked and ran inside. She paid the tow truck driver for his trouble and moved the vehicle.
Surprise: A man who parked his Buick LaCrosse on Hill Avenue near Slack Street Tuesday found it missing when he went back for it a few hours later, even though he'd left the key in it. It was entered into the database as stolen, but the owner called police the following day to tell them he'd located it.
Kids at heart: An Oregon Avenue resident said her adult son and daughter had been arguing Wednesday and it turned into a pushing match before her daughter left.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1506 Euclid Ave., 1510 Euclid Ave., 225 Ohio St. (vacant lot), 227 Ohio St. and 541 Lincoln Blvd., all for high grass. Also cited were 465 Lincoln Ave. for litter and household discards scattered on the property and high grass; 1302 Belleview Blvd. for a large pile of personal items, litter and garbage in the front yard; and 1418 Euclid Ave. for high grass, litter and household discards piled on the porch and in the yard.
Cited: Shawn D. Gilmore, 64621 Rock Mount Road, Bellaire, speeding (school zone).
