JEFFERSON COUNTY DRUG TASK FORCE
Drug, gun charges filed: A Steubenville man was taken into custody Thursday after detectives with the Jefferson County Drug Task Force, assisted by Steubenville police, searched a home at 2616 Sunset Boulevard.
Police said Garrett Freeman, 60, was charged in Steubenville Municipal Court with possession of drugs and having weapons while under disability.
Task Force Commander Sheriff's Deputy Maj. Chris Vinci said they found about 15 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine and a loaded gun in the residence. He said Freeman was present during the search.
The Jefferson County Drug Task Force is comprised of Jefferson County sheriff's deputies, Steubenville police and the Jefferson County Prosecutor's Office.

Driving while drunk: A woman who'd had too much to drink Wednesday allegedly tried several times to run over a female acquaintance who had told her she needed to go home and sleep it off, destroying a bench in Veterans Park and hitting a male who was leaving the area. The victim said the drunk, an acquaintance of hers, had pulled up alongside her on Park Street and while they were talking she'd noticed the woman was intoxicated. After she told her she needed to go home, she said the two of them argued and the intoxicated woman hit her in the face, then "at some point (the woman) drove into the park and attempted to strike her several times with the vehicle." During the confusion, she said the woman "struck and destroyed" a bench in the park and hit the man before leaving. Police said the caller had a small bump on her forehead and wants to pursue charges against her acquaintance.
Rocky road: A woman driving on Brady Avenue at Ridge Wednesday said she passed a group of teenaged boys and one of them threw a rock at her car. She said her window was down so nothing was broken but it did hit her. The juveniles took off running but she said she "pursued them through LaBelle and onto McDowell Avenue," where she lost track of them. She said she wasn't hurt and her car wasn't damaged but she did want police to talk with them.
Dirty laundry: A Market Street resident said she put a load of laundry in a machine at the laundromat but when she came back to move it into a dryer, "everything was taken out and missing."
Angry ex: A Sunset Boulevard woman told police her ex told her Wednesday "he was going to her house and shoot up the place." She wanted a report on file and police also advised her to apply for a protection order.
Filtered down: A downtown resident complained Wednesday she's being harassed by a female who had a problem with her brother earlier in the day. She said the woman is "calling and texting her phone" and is having her family members do it, too.
Bothered: A woman calling from a location in the 400 block of Madison Avenue told police she'd been harassed by a male who also threatened to hit her Wednesday. He'd already fled the scene but when police offered her a ride to her home on Pleasant Heights she refused it.
Problem kids: Callers reported juveniles fighting Wednesday at a business in the 2100 block of Sunset Boulevard.
Desperate: A man at an Oakmont Avenue residence asked police to take custody of a small backpack a woman had stashed in bushes by his brother's house Wednesday. He said the woman had been "squatting down next to his brother's vehicle in their driveway" and changed her shirt, then wandered through his backyard. He said he had no idea what was in the bag but he'd never seen her before and didn't want it on the property. Police said it contained clothing and hygiene products and told the man if she came back to tell her it would be at the police station for safekeeping.
Road blocker: A caller reported a vehicle parked in the middle of Oakmont Avenue Wednesday. Neighbors had no idea who it belonged to so police called for a tow truck. When it arrived, the owner "came outside and advised (she was) a mid-wife and in a hurry," so she parked and ran inside. She paid the tow truck driver for his trouble and moved the vehicle.
Surprise: A man who parked his Buick LaCrosse on Hill Avenue near Slack Street Tuesday found it missing when he went back for it a few hours later, even though he'd left the key in it. It was entered into the database as stolen, but the owner called police the following day to tell them he'd located it.
Kids at heart: An Oregon Avenue resident said her adult son and daughter had been arguing Wednesday and it turned into a pushing match before her daughter left.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1506 Euclid Ave., 1510 Euclid Ave., 225 Ohio St. (vacant lot), 227 Ohio St. and 541 Lincoln Blvd., all for high grass. Also cited were 465 Lincoln Ave. for litter and household discards scattered on the property and high grass; 1302 Belleview Blvd. for a large pile of personal items, litter and garbage in the front yard; and 1418 Euclid Ave. for high grass, litter and household discards piled on the porch and in the yard.
