STEUBENVILLE POLICE
Nature's call: A man was in the 200 block of N. Forest Avenue "praying in the roadway naked" Wednesday. Police found his clothing strewn on the front lawn of a residence, and neighbors told them the man "completely undressed and began praying before running" to the 2500 block of Cherry Avenue. While they were checking the area of Cherry Avenue and Pico Park, a resident told them she'd seen the naked man running in the 2600 block of Cherry Avenue and found him sitting in the roadway at the intersection of Cleveland and Wilshire "mumbling." While they waited for Steubenville EMS to do a mental health evaluation, police were trying to get him in a cruiser "to prevent further indecent exposure to the public," police said. He began resisting, thrashing his body and kicking at the cruiser. They put him back in the grass, and he calmed down and prayed some more. He was taken to the hospital. Police took his clothes and wallets to the hospital for him.
Airing it out: A caller reported seeing a man "walking down Sunset with his pants down" Tuesday. Police located him near DiGregory Drive and said his pants were, in fact, down, "partially exposing himself." They advised him of the complaint, and he pulled them up.
Seeing is believing: A disturbance was reported in the 2500 block of Crabbe Boulevard Tuesday. Police said the male and female involved "were both intoxicated" and insisted they'd been sleeping before police got there. Both of them had scratches on their faces but denied needing help "and did not believe officers that there were visible scratch marks on them."
Shifting stories: A man showed up at the emergency room with a gash on his arm that was "bleeding profusely." He said he'd been cutting drywall and cut himself with the knife. Staff members told police the woman who'd dropped him off had said he cut himself while they were putting in an air conditioner, but they'd also observed "a large amount of blood" on her as well. A witness who was in the parking lot to smoke said she'd heard the occupants of a blue Nissan Rogue arguing and then a "distinctive scream and grunt." The male then claimed they'd been working at a rental property but he didn't know the address and it was 20 miles away, later describing it as 20 minutes away. The woman then told them the male was holding some paneling so she could cut it to fit around an air conditioner and the knife slipped. When asked about all the conflicting stories, the male said he didn't want the female to get in trouble.
Attitude adjustments: Siblings were having issues in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue Tuesday. A female at the scene claimed her brother had pushed her into a table during an argument and she was moving out, but she wanted him arrested, though police said she showed no signs of being injured. The other party's mother said it was "a minor sibling scuffle" and said her daughter "ran up on her brother and he pushed her back."
Hearing things: A downtown resident reported being threatened by two men Wednesday. He claimed the two were outside his door and told him they were "going to kick his legs" when he left his apartment, but a neighbor advised no one could enter the building unless they were a resident with a key.
Boxed in: A city resident told police she thought she heard a man and two juveniles outside her door Thursday. She said she thinks the kids were in a box. Police checked the building but didn't see anyone in the hallway, nor did they find children in a box.
Creative: Employees at the Trinity West gift shop told police a woman scanned $123 in merchandise Thursday at the self-checkout, bagged the items and then deleted them from the scanner before leaving without paying.
Booked: Mary Smith, 61, 2533 Cleveland Ave., Steubenville, warrant for felony theft (Wednesday).
Served: Deborah A. Filby, 58, 623 Lovers Lane, Apt. B3, Steubenville, warrant for misdemeanor theft (Wednesday). Filby was served with the warrant as she left the store. She was charged with a second count of misdemeanor theft because she allegedly left the store without paying for an item, a cup valued at $3.50, police said.
Booked: Samantha Cremeans, 30, 805 University Blvd., Steubenville, possession of drugs and probation violation (Wednesday). Police allegedly found about 2.33 grams of a white, rock-like substance believed to be cocaine in Cremeans' possession during a traffic stop.
Cited for speeding in a school zone were Justin M. Golna, 38, 1300 Charles St., Wellsburg, speeding, and Philomena M. Knoell, 22, Scottsdale, Ariz. Also cited was Kirk Dollison, 1042 Main St., Steubenville, no operator's license and stop sign violation; Brianna N. Grimes, 34, 733 ½ Rosswell Ave., Steubenville, speeding and driving under suspension. A Ford Edge with expired plates parked in the 500 block of Lawson Avenue was towed.

Tequila sunrise: A woman said her new husband "beat her pretty bad" when she told him his friend had sexually assaulted her during their wedding reception. She said her groom's ex had been grabbing her leg throughout the evening, but she didn't think much of it because of his friendship with her new husband, but toward the end of the night the friend "reached under her dress and grabbed her buttocks and vagina." When she told her husband, she said he "called her a liar and began to physically assault her," at one point saying he "punched her and knocked (a tooth) out." She said he put her in a headlock, hitting the right side of her face repeatedly, then knocked her to the ground where he "began strangling her." After he let her go, she said he knocked a female guest over and then went after a male who was trying to get him off her. The bride said she was afraid of what he might do, so she retrieved a gun she keeps for protection, but her husband "bull rushed her and tackled her to the ground" and somehow got his hands on the gun.
The other female also complained that the groom's friend had been rubbing her leg throughout the night and after he did it to the bride, "(her new husband) began to attack her" and another guest tried to intervene. The groom's friend said they'd all been drinking tequila and he didn't remember anything that happened after 11 p.m., but he'd only met the bride once and groping her would be out of character for him.
The husband told deputies the melee was fueled by alcohol and claimed it "wasn't the first time his wife pulled a gun on him" and "anytime she drinks liquor she starts to become aggressive." The new husband said his back, his backside and his palms hurt "from trying to avoid...a confrontation" and claimed his bride came at him "in a rage."
