Rummaging: A caller in the 1500 block of Ridge Avenue reported seeing an unknown male in two parked cars Sunday and said he also tried to snatch a fake plant from someone’s porch. Police said the man told them, "he'd been sleeping in another vehicle and must have mistaken this vehicle for it." He said he did not own a vehicle and had no idea whose vehicle he was in. The owner told police she did not know him and had not given him permission to go through her car. Police charged Timothy T. Morris, 30, no address, with vehicle trespass.
Knock off: A bicyclist in the 2700 block of Sunset Boulevard was struck by a passing car traveling in the same direction Monday. Police said the bicyclist got back to his feet and told them he was near the curb when the driver sideswiped him and knocked him over. He had a small bloody mark on his forehead but denied needing medical attention, saying the injury "was from when he was hit on his bike the other day." The driver said he did not see the bicyclist.
Holding his breath: A Euclid Avenue resident told police Monday that she and her male companion had "been arguing the entire afternoon and she was leaving the residence for the night," but he had threatened to change the locks to their home and not return any of her belongings if she left.
Imagine this: Two women were arguing in a home in the 400 block of S. Fifth Street Monday. A woman who opened the door said she needed her glasses, shoes and food stamp card. The homeowner told police she wanted the other woman and her male companion out of her home and asked police to stay while they collected their belongings. The homeowner said she was missing two IDs, bank cards with her name on them, her Chime and food stamp cards. The woman who was ordered to leave reported her food stamp card was missing, while her male companion said his bank card was missing. All denied having the others’ items. The woman who was told to leave claimed a male with the homeowner had threatened "to hit her with an axe and shoot her." Police said there was no axe in the home.
Family fighting: A man in the 100 block of Pembroke Road who was fighting with his brother Monday wanted him removed from the residence. The brother said they had been arguing and it turned physical. Police told the man who leased the residence that his brother had residency and could not be forced to leave without being formally evicted. Neither wanted to file charges.
Lining up: Neighbors were at odds in the 600 block of Troy Drive Monday over trimming bushes and plants that overlapped their shared property line. The issue had been ongoing, but after discussing it they reached an agreement that the greenery could be maintained as long as it did not cross the fence line.
Backfire: Callers reported hearing shots fired in the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue Monday, but witnesses told police a maroon vehicle had backfired several times, making it sound like gunfire. One person suggested the driver was running the engine to make the vehicle backfire intentionally. The vehicle was located on Kendall Avenue, and the driver was advised to stop revving the engine.
Card used: A Stanton Boulevard resident told police Tuesday that someone charged more than $500 in merchandise to his debit card. He believed his roommate may have used it. She denied having his card, but her son later gave the card to police and said they had used it to rent a U-Haul with the other man’s permission.
Speeding: Cited for speeding in a school zone were Sophia G. Miller, 21, Easley, S.C.; Drew N. Patterson, 38, 116 Aberdeen Road, Steubenville; Jeffrey W. Holmes II, 107 Harmon Ave., Weirton; and Michael Macaluso Jr., 61, 116 Deya St., Weirton.
Cited: A Ford F-250 with expired plates parked in the 400 block of Rosslyn Boulevard was towed. A Chevy TrailBlazer with an expired Pennsylvania plate and a Subaru Legacy with an expired Texas plate also were towed.
