Aim sets new dates for childbirth classes
STEUBENVILLE -- Aim Women's Center is working to combat infant mortality rates in Jefferson County. Its childbirth class program is one of several across the state addressing significant maternal and infant health disparities.
Studies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recognize childbirth classes as an evidence-based strategy to improve maternal health outcomes and reduce racial disparities. CDC research shows prenatal education can improve breastfeeding, reduce interventions during birth, improve maternal health, increase birth satisfaction and decrease postpartum depression and anxiety.
The Aim childbirth class instructor provides prenatal education, birth planning, 24/7 on-call labor support, postpartum visits including wellness checks and breastfeeding coaching, and mental health screenings. These services combine to provide a positive birth experience for mothers and better health outcomes for mothers and children.
“We are responding to a pressing community gap with a cost-effective, evidence-based solution, rooted in data and local need,” said Rebekah Cohen Morris, Aim executive director.
A new childbirth series is set for Tuesdays, Sept. 29, Oct. 6, Oct. 13 and Oct. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. It is open to Aim and non-Aim clients, and registration is required.
