Knock off: A juvenile said someone driving a red Hummer knocked him off his bike Sunday in the 100 block of N. Ninth Street and left the scene but returned to apologize before leaving a second time. He told police he saw the driver texting as he swerved toward him on the side of the street. He said he was able to get back on his bike and pedal to a parking lot where he "stayed for several hours before his father (arrived) to carry him to his residence." The bicycle was only scratched, but the boy ended up at the hospital to get checked out.
Clipped: A caller in the 300 block of Terri Avenue said a neighbor's children had come to her home and reported their parents were fighting Sunday. The mother said they'd been in an altercation because she didn't like their kids' haircuts for school. She said he picked up one of them and sat them in a chair and plugged in the clippers "when (they) began pushing one another" and started fighting over them. At one point, the cord was wrapped around her neck, and she believed he intended to cut her hair with them, so she told the kids to run to the neighbors for help and thought he tried to keep her from doing the same. She said her arm was scratched during the altercation and she had to remove the clipper guard from her hair, but she didn't want to pursue charges. Her husband said his sons "would not be going to school with that hairstyle and...he was going to cut their hair." He said when he put the kid on the stool and reached for the clippers, she pushed him and they fought over them and claimed she was cursing in front of them. He didn't want to pursue charges, either.
Denied: A caller reported a woman with a knife threatening to stab her male companion Sunday in the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue. Police spoke with the male, who said they'd argued but the female never produced a weapon and there was no altercation.
Alcohol-fueled: A Plum Street resident told police she'd been drinking and got into an argument with her niece Friday. She said her niece pushed her, but neither she nor her niece wanted to pursue charges. Police waited with her for a family member to arrive to take her to her home in Wheeling.
Charged: Melissa A. Farrister, 54, 1690 County Road 78, Amsterdam, misdemeanor theft. Employees at Walmart allege Farrister tried to leave the store with merchandise she hadn't paid for.
