STEUBENVILLE POLICE
Grounded: A man riding his bicycle told police he saw a man "punch a female in the face" in the 400 block of Madison Avenue Monday. He said he confronted the male and they argued, then after he began riding away he said the male "came up from behind and pushed him off his bike. He said after he fell, the man "punched him several times in the head," then he and the woman he punched got in a car and drove away. Police said they didn't see any injuries to the man's head but his elbow and knee were cut. He didn't want medical attention.
On the run: A man told police he spotted a small child "running across Lawson Avenue" Monday so he picked the kid up and located the parents. Mom said she was painting a wall and didn't realize the screen door was open. As soon as she realized he was gone she said she went searching for him.
Booked: Thomas E. Walenciej Jr., 28, 721 Market St., Apt. E, Steubenville, theft. Walmart employees alleged Walenciej tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise and said they watched him eating some of it in the store. They said he was given a chance to pay for his purchase but refused.
Charged: Kevin E. Belon Sr., 58 736 Rosswell Ave., Steubenville, theft. Employees at Walmart claimed Belon tried to leave the store Monday without paying for food and clothing.
Cited: Nichole Barnett, 43, 2239 Cherry Ave., Steubenville, stop sign violation. Police allege they saw Banett go through a blinking red light at the intersection of Market and 7th Street, then said she did it again at the intersection of Market and 5th. Barnett told police she slowed down "but...the light was blinking and (she) did not realize she had to stop."
Cited: Jessica Ann Thomas, 39, Township Road 387 Steubenville, driving under suspension and assured clear distance ahead after she allegedly rear-ended another motorist Monday at the intersection of State Route 7 and University Boulevard.
