Medical professionals were concerned when a woman who had just been discharged from the hospital after smoking crack the evening got in her car Wednesday, telling police they didn't think she should be driving that soon even though they wanted her off the property. Police said the woman was sleeping in her vehicle when they arrived and that she told them she was "moving back to Ashtabula from a residence in the Irondale area." All of her belongings were in the car but she said she didn't have much money for food and was having trouble with something fuel-related. She said she didn't have money for a hotel room and she'd told the staff she would be sleeping in her vehicle and they were initially okay with it. Police told her they weren't comfortable with her driving until they knew she was no longer impaired, and after she had difficulty completing a one-legged stand test the ended up taking her to the police station to wait for a friend to give her a ride.
The owner of a Sunset Boulevard property said Wednesday someone's been looting items from it. He said since March, he's noticed a brass bed, an antique dresser and desk, for swivel bar stools, two dining room chairs, a silver teapot and silverware missing.
A man in the 400 block of Madison Avenue said a man walked up to his property Wednesday and told him "he wanted to fight." He said he "didn't want to hear him talk" so he went back inside.
A Maryland Avenue resident told police a woman who had been staying with her packed her belongings Wednesday and left, taking with her two of the homeowner's black Android cell phones. The phones are locked but her Cash App and Venmo accounts can be accessed through them. Police told her to cancel both accounts.
Police were called to a possible overdose on S. 9th Street Wednesday. They said firefighters were already there rendering aid to the individual, who was "immediately taken out of the residence" and transported to the hospital.
A juvenile took off running to avoid police Thursday in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue, going so far as to remove his windbreaker during the chase to try to avoid detection. He ended up being booked into the juvenile detention center.
