STEUBENVILLE POLICE
No compassion: A woman living in apartments attached to a business on Lawson Avenue at Adams Street spotted a man sitting on the steps in front of the business and began "yelling at him for being there." He said he tried to explain he was walking home from work but "has trouble with his knees due to age," so he has to take breaks, but she refused to listen. He said he waited there because she called police to complain he was trespassing. Police said they "understood his limited mobility" and declined to take any action against him.
Rough day: A caller reported seeing a woman crash into a pole, then walk into a fitness center Tuesday. Police said the vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and a yellow concrete handicap pole was bent over, but when they went inside the business they couldn't find the driver. Within minutes, employees found the woman unconscious in a tanning bed and said they'd had to shake her in order to wake her up. The woman has a history of seizures, is diabetic and had been discharged from a Pittsburgh hospital earlier in the day. She told police she didn't remember hitting the pole.
Rowdy: Two women were charged after a disturbance Tuesday in the 1300 block of Oak Grove Avenue. Police cited Lysaih Rice, 28, 1516 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, and Essie Sriramdas, 41, 545 Woodland Ave., Steubenville, for disorderly conduct.
Police said Rice and several family members advised there had been an argument but "nothing remotely close to a physical altercation had taken place," but Sriramdas claimed she'd "been spit on and the passenger side front door of her vehicle had been kicked and dented."
Police said they saw spit on Sriramdas's pant leg and said there was a shoe print on her car door that matched Rice's shoe. Police said Rice admitted the argument turned physical after she allegedly saw Sriramdas putting "some sort of powder on her hands as though she were preparing to fight."
Rice told police she picked up a kettlebell to defend herself and claimed Sriramdas then got in her car "to run her over," so she kicked the car door. Rice denied spitting on Sriramdas and told police the older woman had "spit on herself to (make herself) look like the victim," but Sriramdas was adamant Rice spit on her.
Rice also claimed Sriramdas threw a bottle of water at her based on the location of the spit on Sriramdas. Police did see a wet spot on Rice's shirt and also noted that, based on the location of the spit, it didn't seem likely Sriramdas could have done it to herself.
Bugged: A driver who crossed a double yellow line and then came to a stop Tuesday well beyond the stop bar at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Argonne Avenue was warned "her full attention must be on the road." The woman told police she "was distracted because she found a fly in her French fries."
Phantom: A woman in the 800 block of N. 6th Avenue claimed someone came into her home while she and her boyfriend were asleep and stole her cellphone. She said she woke up to find her front door open but only the phone was missing. Police checked the building's security cameras but didn't see anyone going in or out of the apartment.
Stuck: A woman told police she was stranded on Glendwell Road at Opal Boulevard Wednesday. Police reported she was sitting in the grass by a house on the corner and told them she was from the St. Clairsville area and was dropped off there so she could "hang out with another female," but was unfamiliar with the area.
She also said she'd "been up for over three days with no sleep" and requested an ambulance "because she felt she needed a mental health evaluation." Steubenville EMS took her to the hospital.
Double trouble: A juvenile driving without a license was cited for having no operator's license and driving on the wrong side of the roadway Tuesday after a two-car collision at the intersection of state Route 7 near Logan Street.
Police said the juvenile was "confused by the traffic pattern due to construction." The oncoming driver saw the juvenile traveling the wrong way and slowed his vehicle. Both vehicles were driveable, though police said the juvenile's had "prior damage all over."
Summons issued: Aaron Holliman, 23, 480 S. 6th St., Steubenville, petit theft (Tuesday). Holliman allegedly bagged a magazine and eight other items and attempted to leave the store without paying.
Fireworks: Callers reported juveniles "throwing fireworks into a fire" Tuesday. Police said they located a group of kids near a fire, advised them of the complaint and told them to call it a night.
Cited: Jessica A. Thomas, 39, 1504 Madison Ave., Toronto, driving under suspension; Rachel Clayton, 25, 512 State St., Follansbee, expired/unlawful plates.
