STEUBENVILLE POLICE
Foul mouthed: A disturbance was reported in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue (rear) Sunday. The caller said a man was “outside yelling and using profanities” and pointed out a male walking in the 900 block of N. Fifth Street as being involved. Police identified the individual as a juvenile who had been speaking with his mother. His mom confirmed they didn’t live in the North End.
Homeless: A woman was sleeping near the food trucks parked at Fort Steuben Park Saturday. Police woke her up to make sure she was okay, then she left.
Lose him: A woman in the 400 block of Lovers Lane said she’s afraid of her boyfriend, so when he got upset and came to her home Saturday to retrieve his Xbox, she locked him out, resulting in him “banging on the front door to the extent that he broke locks on the door.” She said she put the gaming system on the stoop outside a different door and he left but later texted her father to advise he “accidentally damaged the door and was not going to pay to repair it.” Dad said he had to replace the door knobs and locks and wanted to file charges against his daughter’s boyfriend for the damages.
Stranger things: A caller reported seeing a man “drinking alcohol in the (parking) lot and acting in a strange manner” Saturday. When police located the man, they said he was not drinking alcohol and advised he was fine. He left the area.
Rolled up welcome mat: A resident in the 400 block of S. Fourth Street wanted a woman removed from her residence Sunday. When others living there told police the woman she wanted removed had been living there for months, police told the homeowner they couldn’t make her leave, though they did advise her what she’d have to do to get a court-ordered eviction. When they told her, police said she ended up leaving the residence.
Theft: An Oakmont Avenue resident reported two juvenile boys stole her son’s Trek pedal bike and an Easy Roller from her yard Sunday. She said she located one of the boys, who handed over the Easy Roller. When she asked him who had the bike and where it was taken, he wasn’t helpful.
Out of it: Passersby reported seeing a man “slumped over a picnic table” at the North End ballfield Sunday. He told police he was sitting at the table and fell asleep and denied needing medical attention. Police said he left the area on foot.
Not wanted: A property owner reported seeing two girls cutting through property he owns on Slack Street Sunday. He said the girls, who he believes to be around age 16, have done it several times over the last few weeks. Police spoke with a man living in Smith Alley who said the only juvenile there is a 15-year-old relative who “has not left the residence all day.”
Bricked house: A woman in the 1100 block of Lincoln Avenue said she was locked out Monday and had been waiting on the porch for a male companion to return home, but people who had been there earlier in the day returned “and threw a brick through the window on the door.” She told police she ran “and tripped over a bush” but was able to text her male companion and said the individuals “arrived in a blue sedan and after throwing the brick left.”
Dirt fight: A Ridge Avenue resident and a juvenile were arguing about “the cleanliness of the residence” Sunday. All involved concluded it would be best to take the child to another family member’s home to prevent further problems.

Dog days: Three dogs escaped from a residence in the Amsterdam area July 26 and damaged a neighbor’s chicken pen and savaged her chickens. The neighbor said she and her sister heard her chickens “screaming” and, when they came outside, “saw the three dogs near the pen with feathers scattered about” and reported one of the chickens was critically injured. The owner of the dogs claimed “they never get out like that,” but the dog warden said they’ve been loose “multiple times in the past month.” The dogs’ owner also complained the chickens’ owner was refusing to give them back to her, but the dog warden said they’d run off into the woods when he arrived. The chicken owner also said one of the dogs “growled and showed its teeth” to her sister and another lunged at her, and when the dog owner walked up with a female friend, she reported they heard her boyfriend on the phone saying he would “come up there and straighten (the neighbor) out.” The boyfriend denied threatening harm to the neighbor and her sister, claiming all he said was that he would sue them, but while they were talking with him deputies learned the dog had allegedly attacked someone else. The boyfriend said he would repair the woman’s chicken pen.
There’s the door: A man living on state Route 213 near Toronto claimed when his girlfriend left the house she was threatening suicide July 21. The man refused to tell dispatchers his address, didn’t want deputies responding to his home and would not speak with them, then hung up and wouldn’t answer any callbacks. Deputies located the woman, who told them she was fine but is aware they need to see her in person to verify her mental state. Deputies were able to verify she was safe and reported she told them the male told her “he would continue to call 9-1-1 and state she is suicidal each time they have an argument and she leaves.” She said he’d pulled the same thing a few days earlier and that time told her “he was going to call every time and ‘make something up’ if she left home.”
Busted: A Township Road 1305 (Toronto) resident told deputies she needed help “right away” July 22. When they called back, she said the father of her children showed up drunk and they’d argued “due to how intoxicated he was.” She said she tried to get back in her house but he “shoved the door and … busted her lip.” She said she wasn’t sure where he went but she managed to get back in the house. Deputies were able to locate the man, who told them he’d stay away.
No wonder: A caller said his ex’s boyfriend threatened to kill him July 25. He said his daughter had called to tell her mother she doesn’t want to go there anymore due to issues with her mom’s choice of companions and the boyfriend “got on and asked if they knew him.” When she said no, he started screaming at her. Dad heard him screaming at his daughter and told him that wasn’t acceptable and said the boyfriend started threatening him, saying he would “stop up” and then told him to “meet him at Friendship Park where he would kill him.” Three witnesses told deputies they heard the threats.
Petty: A woman living on County Road 45, Steubenville, said a neighbor was cutting grass and blowing the clippings into the roadway July 23, creating a hazard for motorcyclists. Deputies spoke with a man who told them there’s “animosity between neighbors and it was probably a retaliatory call.”
Troubled relationship: A Toronto-area woman said her baby’s father came home from work and “started throwing stuff at her kids and laying hands on her” July 21. She said they argue a lot and that day he’d walked in and “threw (liquid) detergent at her and their newborn baby, splashing it all over the room.” The male said she’d accused him of cheating on her and “started yelling and hitting him,” so he pushed her away. She showed deputies a video. Deputies said neither of them wanted to pursue charges but reported they smelled alcohol on his breath. He admitted when he came home he had a shot of liquor, which upset her, and she poured the rest down the drain.
Fire fight: A County Road 56 resident reported having problems with a man because he’d seen him catch his neighbor’s field on fire several times and had signed a statement to that effect July 24. He said since then, anytime he’s outside the man comes out and “flips him off.” He said the man had done it that day while he was mowing, so he told him to knock it off or he’d file charges, but the man promptly referred to him with an ethnic slur and said if he pulls a gun on him he’d “shove it (somewhere).” He said he didn’t have a gun and never pointed one at him.
Concerned: A county resident reported an individual threatening his family July 24. He said there’d been issues over the last couple years “between him, his family and (the individual)” and believes the individual “is serious about acting on them.”
Stolen: A Bergholz-area resident said her German shepherd had been stolen July 23. She said she’d left the dog at home to help a family member run errands and when she returned, the dog was missing. She said a woman claimed she’d taken the dog and dropped it off at the Humane Society.
Starting young: Juveniles stole a car parked at a Two Ridge Drive, Wintersville, location Sunday. Cross Creek and Wintersville police pursued the vehicle, deputies said. The owner told deputies she left the vehicle unlocked with the keys inside after she returned from an errand and said she saw police chasing a vehicle and recognized it as her own. During their joyride, the juveniles ran over a child’s bike and drove up on a curb, authorities said. The juveniles were taken into custody.
