Cat caught in soccer net: A Saint Charles Drive resident asked police Thursday to help disentangle a neighbor's cat that had become caught in his child's soccer net. The resident told police he is allergic to cats and said it has been "an ongoing issue with the neighbor not keeping her animals on her property." After freeing the cat, police said it returned to the neighbor's home through a sliding glass door that had been left open "so the animals can come and go." Police said there were "about 10-12 cats all over the property." Officers were unable to speak with the owner but cited Shelly L. Argentine, 70, 3234 Saint Charles Drive, for allegedly having animals at large.
Persistent fraudster: A Cherry Avenue resident reported someone attempted to make nearly $700 in withdrawals from her bank account over the past month. She told police the fraudulent activity began around June 23, when someone using her debit card attempted eight withdrawals of $267. Police said all transactions were blocked.
Burglary, assault alleged: Police said Jevante Childs, 34, of Columbus, was booked into the county jail without bond Thursday on charges of aggravated burglary and assault after an Oakmont Avenue resident reported he had "kicked in her door and assaulted her." Childs also had an active warrant from Harrison County, police said.
Charged: Marleny R. Santana, 37, 328 McLister Ave., Mingo Junction, was charged with misdemeanor theft after Walmart employees reported Wednesday that she left the store without paying for more than $166 in merchandise. The store requested restitution for $104 in perishable items, police said.
Served: Nicholas Woodland, 36, 416 Madison Ave., Steubenville, was booked into the county jail without bond Wednesday on a warrant issued for his arrest.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to the owner/occupants of properties at 157 McDowell Ave., 161 McDowell Ave., 738 Oxford Blvd. and 1324 Wellesley Ave. for alleged high grass.
