Overindulged: A man who had too much to drink was asked to leave the Sunoco station on South Seventh Street Monday after he became a bother to other customers.
He told police the clerk had "ripped him off," insisting he handed him a $20 bill to pay for a $6 purchase and only received $2 back.
The clerk told police the man was "obviously intoxicated" and had only given him two $1 bills, which was not enough to cover the purchase. When the clerk explained that, the customer became upset and bothered other customers, prompting him to be asked to leave.
Police reviewed surveillance footage and confirmed the man had given the clerk only $2, both of which were found in his pocket. He left.
Long walk: Callers reported a man "acting erratic" in the 400 block of South Third Street Sunday.
Police said he was standing near the State Route 7 fence line "yelling at people for no apparent reason who were pumping gas at Mr. Fuel," then turned around and began walking in the SR 7 roadway.
They reported he was "very agitated" when they told him to leave the roadway, advising he "had been stopped by police multiple times while walking from Pittsburgh."
The man told officers he was "trying to walk west to Colorado," so police gave him a ride to the city limits and advised him to stay on the berm.
Bad idea: Norfolk Southern told police Monday someone had run an extension cord under the railroad tracks on South Street.
Police said the cord originated from Club 106 and was connected to a large inflatable tent. The cord was unplugged and removed from the railroad's property.
The inflatable was located on private property, and the owners told police they would give the club owner one day to remove it before doing so themselves.
Police said the owner previously had run an extension cord above utility wires to a city lot across the street and became upset when city officials told him it was not permitted.
Uhoh: A woman in the 100 block of McConnell Avenue told police there was a large black snake in her garage. Officers searched but were unable to locate it.
Charges requested: An argument ensued when a woman asked for a room in the 100 block of North Sixth Avenue Sunday and was told no.
Management told police they did not want her on the property again.
A couple hours later, police were dispatched to a Madison Avenue location, where the woman said she had gotten into an argument with her child's father after he accused her of cursing in front of his infant daughter.
She told police he followed her into another room and "began to strike and choke her." She said he struck her in the forehead, choked her several times and smashed her phone before fleeing.
Police said she had "a large knot on her forehead and blood around her chin and mouth." A witness said he "heard the altercation and (a woman) yelling 'stop.'"
She wants to pursue charges.
Lose the dead weight: Police said a woman in the 1400 block of Euclid Avenue was "very upset, crying and shaking" when she told them Monday she had been assaulted by her live-in boyfriend of two years.
She said they were parked outside a market when he "smacked her in the face." When they returned home, she said he "continued to argue with her...and began to choke her" before fleeing.
She said he had "slapped her several times" the previous day in front of her children.
She had no visible injuries but told police she was afraid of him because "these situations keep escalating" and did not want to file charges, although she wanted him to leave.
Police told her they could not force him to leave but would file domestic violence charges against him.
Ongoing: A resident in the 1100 block of Arlington Avenue who has had longstanding problems with neighbors told police juveniles broke a bottle of liquor in the alley Sunday.
Missed curfew: Police were called to the 1500 block of State Street Sunday to address a juvenile problem.
A woman told police her daughter's probation officer had given her a 9 p.m. curfew and she missed it by 20 minutes.
When she returned home, police said she "became irate at her mother and stormed into the residence."
Her probation officer instructed police to take her into custody for the violation, and she was taken to the detention center.
Booked: Otis Allen, 49, no fixed address, contempt of court Monday. Allen allegedly was "trespassing and asking for money" from customers in the McDonald's drive-thru despite being banned from the property; Jody Hawthorne, 65, 615 Ross St., Steubenville, theft Saturday.
Money gone: A South Fourth Street resident told police Tuesday that $40 was missing from his account.
He said a woman he knows had helped him with his Cash App account and the following day he noticed a withdrawal he had not authorized.
Cited, served: Police spotted a man known to have a suspended license driving Monday on Woodlawn Road at University Boulevard.
Kenneth Geiger, 45, 1533 Euclid Ave., Steubenville, was cited for driving under suspension. He also was served with an outstanding warrant for failure to appear at a hearing on a previous DUS citation.
Cited: Dean Mitchell, 65, 2865 Wilson Ave., Mingo Junction, warrant for misdemeanor theft. Mitchell also was cited Sunday for expired/unlawful plates and failure to reinstate driver's license; Shaurn Roby, Vienna, West Virginia, no operator's license; Nathaniel Freeman, 30, 508 Dock St., Steubenville, expired registration.
