Police Beat
STEUBENVILLE POLICE
Scary stuff: A city resident told police last week her juvenile child had been violent with siblings and has been spitting on family members. The juvenile’s mother said there had been a prior incident involving an overdose and the child has also “killed animals and was causing harm to the family’s pets.” Mom told police she’s concerned the juvenile “wants to cause harm to others” as well as self-harm. The child was hospitalized.
Craving drugs: A disturbance involving a female “possibly armed with a knife” was reported in the 700 block of N. Sixth Street Friday. Police were told the woman had threatened “to stab herself if she was not given her medication.” Police said the woman had no weapon but report they could hear her “yelling profanities” in a conference room and report she “made multiple comments that she would kill herself if her Gabapentin wasn’t refilled” and that she would “go purchase fentanyl or methamphetamine to overdose” if she didn’t get it. She was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
On the rocks: A caller reported a female was following her boyfriend’s car Saturday at Fourth and Logan streets. She told police she had found out “he was cheating on her and she was upset” and had followed him from the Steubenville marina. Officers stayed with her until she calmed down and eventually she told them she was going to head home and since he doesn’t live with her there wouldn’t be any more problems.
Relationship issues: A man and woman with no fixed address were arguing in the 200 block of Ravine Street (rear) Saturday. The woman said he “was accusing her of cheating and yelling at/toward her” and wanted him removed from the residence. Police told her he had established residency and they couldn’t force him to leave and she admitted he hadn’t assaulted or threatened her. She said she would stay in the bedroom for the rest of the night, so police advised the male he needed to steer clear of her.
Batter up: A woman reported a disturbance in the 700 block of Pine Street “involving a group of individuals with baseball bats” Saturday. A male involved told them he “was the only individual outside and never had any type of weapon” when he tried to get money from the caller. She said he showed up at the residence demanding to speak with a male inside her residence and when that man refused to talk with him “made comments about retrieving money” while holding a silver baseball bat. She told police she didn’t know what he was talking about and doesn’t want him returning to her property.
Property wars: A woman asked police to help her retrieve her belongings Saturday from an Arlington Avenue property because she and her boyfriend had broken up. She showed police messages in which he said he would have her things ready. She told police she pays the bills and wanted the electronics back. Police said he left the area and told her he didn’t want her going in his house to get anything. Police told them both “the whole situation was civil.”
Pawn wars: A husband and wife were arguing inside a Sunset Boulevard business Saturday. Police said the male told them they were arguing because “she pawned off his speaker” and he had gone to the store to buy it back.
Excuses, excuses: A woman and two men were found inside a vacant Lincoln Avenue property Friday but claimed they were there to work on it. Police pointed out that a notice posted on the door made it clear no one is permitted inside the property and needed to leave.
Asked for help: Police were asked to check the mall parking lot for an intoxicated male wearing a camo hat Friday. Police said the man was highly intoxicated and advised them he wished to speak to a mental health professional.
Not listening: A woman and her male companion told police Friday she was trying to retrieve her belongings from a Foster Place property but the homeowner wasn’t there and she didn’t have a key. Police told her they cannot assist her until a homeowner is present and if there’s a dispute over any item it would have to be resolved in court but said she “began asking about specific items inside the residence,” so they told her again there was nothing they could do unless both parties “came to an agreement on ownership of the items.” While they were there police said an unknown male conversing with the couple by phone told her male companion “that he would put him in the ground if (he) came on his property.” The woman’s male companion told police he perceived that as a threat and wanted the unknown male on the phone arrested, but police told him the man on the phone was not present nor did they know who he was.
Bickering: A woman in the 800 block of N. Sixth Street said she and her boyfriend argued about money but denied it ever became physical. She was advised to keep the noise down and not create excess noise by banging on the door.
Cursing loudly: A caller reported a man in the 700 block of N. Fourth Street “yelling profanities” and they weren’t sure if he was “just yelling or antagonizing someone” Friday. Police said they located the man in a nearby alley and he told them “he was okay and was just talking to someone over the phone.”
Moving day: Police told a woman living in a camper at a Sinclair Avenue property Friday she is trespassing and needs to leave. The woman was told she and her camper aren’t permitted on the property and she needed to find someone to move it. She said she would.
Assault claimed, denied: A caller in the 700 block of N. Seventh Street told police a male he did not know claimed to have been assaulted Saturday and “was holding his arm as if it were injured.” They located that male who told them he’d been in an argument and was struck in the back of the head and told them the name of his alleged assailant and said he wanted to file charges. His alleged assailant insisted he never struck the man, telling police he’d “shown up at his residence acting crazy and told him to leave but never struck him.” A female at his residence also told police she never saw him lay hands on the alleged victim.
