Police Beat

STEUBENVILLE POLICE

Distracted: A North Sixth Avenue resident told police Wednesday she was supervising several children when one child "went into her room and ate a marijuana gummy." She said she had already contacted the child's mother.

Bloody mess: A caller reported seeing a male "staggering and bleeding" in the 2300 block of Sunset Boulevard Wednesday. Police said the man told them he had "punched a window on Moreland Drive," which was later confirmed by a resident in the 1600 block of Moreland. The man's hand was bleeding, and Steubenville EMS transported him to an area hospital for treatment.

Lurking: A city resident told police she was being harassed by a man who "keeps driving past her house and throwing stuff on her property." She said he "constantly threatens her and has even stated that he now has keys to her (home)." Neighbors told her it appeared the man was trying to enter her front door.

Not talking: Police responded to a reported fight in the 900 block of North Seventh Street Wednesday. Officers found a woman involved in the incident, but she refused to provide information. Police were unable to locate the other party, and several bystanders also refused to cooperate.

Complaining: A motorist flagged down police Thursday to report a shirtless male attempted to enter her vehicle on Seventh Street near North Street. She said the man then tried to enter another vehicle in the lot and became involved in an argument with a pedestrian. Police said the pedestrian denied arguing with anyone.

Lock it or lose it: A woman in the 700 block of Brady Avenue told police Thursday someone entered her vehicle overnight but did not take anything. She said someone entered the vehicle a week earlier and stole $60. She told police she does not lock her vehicle.

In a bind: A woman in the 200 block of Cunningham Lane requested police stand by while she retrieved belongings from a residence Thursday. The male occupant was in the alley and told police there was no reason for a response, then showed officers the items she requested.

Police later found Megan Conry, 43, of Columbus, sitting outside an area hospital with two Ole Smoky Tennessee Whiskey mason jars between her legs, one of which was empty. Officers said she was unable to stand, repeatedly moved between sitting, lying on her back and rolling onto her side and had "a strong odor of alcohol." She was transported to the hospital for treatment and issued a summons for intoxication.

Later, police found Conry back at the Cunningham Lane residence after a caller reported hearing "the sound of glass breaking." Officers said she was "staggering in the street and highly intoxicated." Police said she told them she wanted to leave but did not have anywhere to go because she was not from the area. She said a neighbor might be willing to shelter her, but the neighbor declined because Conry's ex-boyfriend had already confronted her for helping her. Police said Conry was unable to care for herself and agreed to return to the hospital.

Enterprising thief: Walmart employees reported a male wearing black shorts and a T-shirt left the store Wednesday with a pair of shoes on his feet and several unpaid items. Employees said the man entered the shoe aisle empty-handed and left with two box-shaped items under his shirt and new shoes. They said he was picked up by someone driving a black sedan "that sat low to the ground and had a spoiler."

Money gone: A Market Street resident told police she misplaced her wallet while shopping at Walmart several days ago. When it was returned Thursday, her credit and debit cards were still inside, but about $200 in cash was missing.

Powered up: Walmart employees reported a man attempted to leave the store Thursday with several small power tools concealed inside a blue container. Employees confronted him, and he left the items, valued at nearly $400, before fleeing in a silver SUV.

Absentee owner: A Lincoln Avenue property owner reported someone vandalized and broke into a residence she owns but has not visited "in an extended period of time." She said windows were broken and an Xbox was stolen.

Theft: A Logan Street resident reported his dirt bike stolen Thursday.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners or occupants of properties at 1441 Oregon Ave., 1237 Oak Grove Ave. and 1329 Oak Grove Ave. for high grass. A notice also was sent for 228 Bryden Road for piles of dog feces causing a "very noticeable" odor, garbage in the backyard and high grass.

JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF

Loser ex: A county resident told deputies Tuesday she was being harassed by an ex despite a court order limiting contact to custody exchanges by text message. She said he texted her because their child's phone was off, then "proceeded to berate her and call her names and call her children names." She told deputies he called her "a dead-beat scumbag, piece of trash" and said her children "were inbred." She said her ex has become "more and more erratic" and she was concerned something could happen during visitation.

Competing claims: A Tiltonsville woman told deputies her young son was at a pool when a 44-year-old woman allegedly harassed him and grabbed a necklace he received for his eighth-grade graduation. Deputies located the woman, who claimed she had paperwork showing the necklace belonged to her son.
